These are the deck layout plans for a Flight 2 Katana class frigate. However, U.S.S.
Coronado has a few internal layout differences compared to her dock-mates. The
locations of most major features (Engineering, Sickbay, Holodecks, Transporter rooms)
remains consistent with other Flight 2 Katanas, but aboard Coro, the primary
Bridge has been moved to a combined Bridge/CIC facility on Deck 9.
In addition to a primary hull and an engineering hull, Katana class frigates also
incorporate eight detachable saucer segments which run from deck 4 to deck 9. Included in
this deck listing are permanent features of U.S.S. Coronado's primary and secondary hulls.
Additional listings show saucer segments currently docked into Coro.

Running from Deck 4 to Deck 9, Katana class starships are fitted with eight modular saucer segments
configured for each individual ship's mission profile or Starfleet division assignment. The standard
segments can also be replaced for individual missions, if such is required. The segment types
incorporated in each position aboard U.S.S. Coronado are:
Segment 1: Wraith / Strike Craft Support
Segment 2: Intelligence Support
Segment 3: Engineering Support
Segment 4: Crew Support linked segment
Segment 5: Crew Support linked segment
Segment 6: Science / Medical linked segment
Segment 7: Science / Medical linked segment
Segment 8: Tactical Support
| Wraith / Strike Craft Support |
 |
4 | | Wraith Docking/Refueling, Repair Bays |
 |
A somewhat specialized segment, the Wraith / Strike Craft support module was integrated into
Coronado during the F-K-R War. It allows Coro to service and support Wraith
class corvettes, as well as Spectre class fighters, as well as other small craft, as well as
berthing their flight crews. |
| 5 | | Wraith Maintenance Support, Cargo Bays |
| 6 | | Flight Crew Officer and Crew Quarters |
| 7 | | Flight Simulators, Classrooms |
| 8 | | Pilot Briefing Rooms, Ready Rooms |
| 9 | | Fighter Docking/Refueling, Computer Support |
| |
| Intelligence Support |
 |
4 | | Briefing, Communications Analysis |
 |
An extremely specialized segment, the Intelligence Support module was created expressly
for use aboard U.S.S. Coronado and is a one-of-a-kind facility for intelligence and
counter-intelligence operations, including reconnaissance, strategic analysis, and electronic
warfare. |
| 5 | | Strategic and Tactical Analysis Labs |
| 6 | | Intelligence Officer's Quarters |
| 7 | | Counter-Intelligence Support Labs |
| 8 | | Electronic Warfare Support Labs |
| 9 | | Stellar Cartography, Computer Support |
| |
Note the removable saucer segments in the diagram to the left. Highlighted in red is
Segment Three, which normally houses an Engineering Support segment on U.S.S.
Coronado. Of course, this segment can be removed at need and replaced with
another type of segment.
With all of its segments removed, Coronado and other Katana class starships are
still able to manuever on impulse power and maintain a small crew, but are unable to
achieve warp or slipstream velocity. In addition, since the main phaser arrays are
interlinked through the saucer segments, main phasers will not be available without
all eight segments in place. |
| |
| Engineering Support |
 |
4 | | External Access Hatches, EVA Control |
 |
The Engineering Support segment provides additional work areas and simulation areas
for starship Engineering personnel, as well as supplemental quarters. Workbees and
EVA suits are also often stored in this part of the ship, in addition to fuel cells and
emergency power. |
| 5 | | Workbee Stowage, EVA Suit Stowage |
| 6 | | Engineering Officer's Quarters |
| 7 | | Cargo Bays, Supplemental Storage |
| 8 | | Auxilliary Fusion Power Generators |
| 9 | | Engineering Storage, Computer Support |
| |
| Crew Support linked segment |
 |
4 | | Bridge Officer's Quarters, Officer's Mess |
 |
Crew Support segments are usually paired, and contain all of the living quarters and
supplemental storage required for the ship's crew, including partially independent life
support and emergency life support facilities and emergency shelters. In particular,
the Captain's Quarters are on Deck 5. |
| 5 | | Senior Officer's Quarters |
| 6 | | Junior Officer's Quarters |
| 7 | | Crew Quarters, Crew Storage |
| 8 | | Crew Quarters, Auxilliary Life Support |
| 9 | | Hydroponics Bays, Airponics Bays |
| |
| Science / Medical linked segment |
 |
4 | | "Soft" Sciences Labs, Offices |
 |
Katana class starships are not generally intended to be first-tier explorers, but do
have sufficient facilities for second-tier exploration and research. The linked Science
and Medical segment includes all of the capabilities needed to do this work, including
laboratories and support facilities. |
| 5 | | Jr. Science / Medical Officer's Quarters |
| 6 | | Science / Medical Officer's Quarters |
| 7 | | Medical Labs, Technician Quarters |
| 8 | | Science Labs, Science Storage Bays |
| 9 | | Astrometrics Lab, Computer Support |
| |
| Tactical Support |
 |
4 | | Strategic Analysis Labs |
 |
The Tactical Support segment is the third most commonly attached segment to Katana class
starships after Crew Support and Science / Medical. It provides work areas for Tactical
and Security personnel, as well as Brig and recreational facilities, the latter often
used by the entire crew. |
| 5 | | Tactical / Security Officer's Quarters |
| 6 | | Gymnasiums, Personal Exercise Rooms |
| 7 | | Target Range, Velocity Chambers |
| 8 | | GravBall Courts, Parrises Squares Arena |
| 9 | | Brig, Computer Support |
Individual or paired segments can be removed and replaced at a Starbase or other repair facility.
When replacing segments for a special mission profile, most often, the Cargo Support and specialized
modules will be removed. There are also other modules not listed above that are intended for
specialized functions. For instance, responding to a plague might require that most of the ship's
saucer segments be replaced with Medical/Science segments or dedicated Medical or Transport segments.
In addition, new modules are being developed. Finally, the creation of these modules allows for
easier upgrades of technology related to the facilities in each module.
