A simming experience aboard Coronado would not be complete
without the support systems that make our sim simply the best IRC sim
available anywhere! From this section, you can learn about the Coronado
support systems: our sim sounds, Java IRC client, and information about
our e-mail listserver are available!
In particular, our
Java IRC client
and our
E-mail Listserver
make it possible to participate in Coronado sims from anywhere you
have web access, including WebTV! Take some time and learn about them!
Like watching Star Trek without the sound effects, without the sounds
used in a Coronado sim, you'll soon feel that something
indefinable is "missing."
The sim sounds used for Coronado sims have been broken down into
five sound packs, detailed below. If you have some sounds that you think
would make good additions to this library, please send them to the Captain!
Also, from time to time, for special sims, new sound packs will appear here
just for that sim. You can read about what's in the sound packs by
checking the detail below, or you can just download them in this table:

This Java IRC client is available for download on the Internet, and allows you to
observe or even participate in sims or conversations from the web! Just fill in a
nickname to replace "Guest" above, and your name and e-mail address, if
desired, and hit "Connect Now!". You will be linked to Coronado's IRC
server and to the #backroom channel, the main out-of-character discussion channel for
UCIP members. Once there, type /join #uss-coronado
to join the sim channel! If the channel is empty when you get there, type
/join #backroom to return to the main discussion
channel -- it probably means that the Coronado is not in session. Check the countdown
below for when our next sim is -- if it is showing 0 hours, 0 minutes, the sim is
either running now, or has just finished.
This is a relatively limited IRC client unfortunately, and it is not recommended
that you use it for anything more than observing sims, or asking for help from
UCIP members with downloading and setting up your own IRC client. The Java client
does not currently support colors or extended text attributes (such as boldface).
In addition, you can effectively only have one window open at a time using this
client.
For day-to-day IRC use, the crew of U.S.S. Coronado recommends that you
download either the mIRC client (Windows)
or the IRCle client (Macintosh).
Both of these are excellent, well-known clients, and should give you hours of
trouble-free fun on IRC! If you're an IRC beginner, you can and should also
review the IRC Help.
Good luck, and we hope to see you aboard!
U.S.S. Coronado maintains an e-mail listserver for transmission of sim
teasers, announcements, particularly relevant logs, and other information of
interest to our simmers! When you join the Coronado sim, you will be
automatically subscribed to this listserver so that you don't miss any of the
announcements.

You can also automatically subscribe the the Coronado listserver by
sending an empty e-mail message to
uss-coronado-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
Fill in your e-mail address and you can also use the button to the left! If you
wish to be unsubscribed for some reason (although I can't understand why), you can
do this by sending an empty e-mail message to
uss-coronado-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com.
If you are a member of Coronado's crew, please don't unsubscribe from
the mailing list! You may miss an important announcement, such as a sim being
cancelled or postponed. You will also miss the weekly sim teaser, which lets
you know what the upcoming sim will be about.
It is also possible to review the Coronado e-mail listserver from the web!
To do so, visit the
U.S.S. Coronado Listserver Archive
website. Be warned -- this link will open in a separate window due to the size
of the display area on that website. Coronado's listserver is provided
by http://www.yahoogroups.com/,
a free service providing listservers for many applications!

From this website, you can review past posts going back several months, post a
message (please do this only if you're a member of Coronado), search the
list for a keyword, or several other functions. If you have any questions about
the U.S.S. Coronado listserver, please do not hesitate to pass them along!
Once you're done here, tap
Back
to return to the Coronado Sim Information index or the
Return
key at the bottom of your PADD, and you will be returned to the main index.
