Designer Notes
The Python is infamous in the south for being the "black market's biggest export." A good number of the Pythons replaced by Spitting Cobras (starting in the TN 1890s) simply went missing, and several pilots and supply officers were prosecuted for theft and black-marketeering. Many other Gears ended up in the hands of independent merchants like Nemmelworth's Gear and MErchandise, who were less than scrupulous about the clientele to which they sold surplus vehicles. While no experienced pilot will compare the Python favorably with the Spitting Cobra, the elder machine remains a dangerous and powerful Gear. Petty dictators, rovers, and revolutionaries now swear by it, still one of the more powerful Gears available on the "independent market." Its has a strong, heavy frame ideal for carrying whatever support weapons are available; its size also makes the Python quite intimidating, a definite asset for bandits and raiders of all stripes. Most important of all, the Gear was once in extremely wide production and replacement parts are still easy to come by, especially in the junk-heaps of the southern Badlands.
