| Designer Notes |
| Based on the Dark Kodiak chassis configuration, the Dark Kodiak II was refit for operations on Caprice in Winter 1941. Worried at the inability to acquire or construct additional bazooka ammunition while on mission and the lack of sufficiently ranged weapons, Kayla had several modifications made to the Dark Warrior. First and foremost was an upgrade to a better comm system, boosting its range and power to allow better command and control communications while in battle. Second, its weapons loadout has been significantly altered in some places; the heavy bazooka has been replaced by a heavy pulse laser cannon. While still dependant on additional parts/ammo, the problems associated with bazooka ammunition are more severe than those associated with the HPLC. In addition, switching to the HPLC provdes a longer range with decent damage potential, and its accuracy makes it a potent weapon. The stock Dark Kodiak's heavy machine guns have been downgraded to light machine guns for their higher rate of fire, and have been linked together to allow simultaneous firing, increasing the threat against infantry forces. The stock MRP/36 has been upgraded to an HRP/48, not only giving The DKII Damocles a further reach with its missiles but also the ability to missile-deploy minefields. Kayla has also considered the possibility of a minor variant on this change, utilizing an HIRP/24 heavy incendiary rocket pack for later missions. With the bazooka's attendant sniper system removed and the three standard gear grenades offloaded, enough room became available for an upgrade of the vibroblade to an armor-crushing vibroaxe, increasing the gear's short-range combat effectiveness while eliminating its dependance on point-blank range ordinance. (Heavy grenades remain as a backup) Chassis reinforcements serve to further enhanced point-blank combat effectiveness. Finally, two additional improvements were added by Kayla; the first is a high-powered stereo system installed in the gear cockpit, coupled with a disc player and tied into the communications system, allowing communications audio to be played over the stereo speakers. Music being a passion and escape of Kayla's, this upgrade is as much to keep her sanity on long missions. The final addition was that of a relatively low-powered searchlight. Capable of keeping only 50 meters in front of her gear lit up, it's enough to make night travel in dangerous terrain less risky, as well as providing illumination for assorted purposes away from camp. |
