| Personal History |
Captain Gabriel Tynes is a native of Zagazig, in the Northern Lights Confederacy, born on 25 Spring 1878. He graduated from the Northern Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Management with the class of 1909. Designated a heavy gear Pilot in Winter 1911, he served in Training Gear Wing Three as a pilot instructor until Autumn 1912. Upon completion of HACS-02HG replacement pilot training at GTS Zagazig, he reported to the BLUE ANGELS of HGR-18 as a Squad Leader and 01HG-ART/A Den Mother II pilot. He served with distinction during the War of the Alliance from 1913 to 1917, earning the first of two Legion of Merit citations for his service in the Battle of Church Pass.
Captain Tynes attended the Guard Postgraduate School and the Guard Test Pilot School Co-op program and earned a Master of Science degree and designation as an experimental test pilot in Spring 1924. He served as test pilot and Operations Project Officer at the Guard Gear Test Center and as an systems and gear test instructor at the Guard Test Pilot School. Piloting gears for 436 hours on a variety of test projects, he received the "1926 SGTD Test Pilot of the Year" Award. Captain Tynes is a "Plank Owner" of the 02HG-ART Thunder Grizzly development team.
In Autumn 1927, Captain Tynes joined HGR-42, the SMOKING GUNS, as a Department Head piloting the 02HG-AST Assault Grizzly, and later, the 02HG-ART Thunder Grizzly. He served as Safety, Administrative, and Operations officer for the SMOKING GUNS, completing two Badlands deployments on board Northern Fleet Carrier VIGILANCE in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH. He then served one tour as Operations Officer for Commander, 2nd Strike Gear Wing, 1st Fleet, where he earned the Strike Gear Wing’s Mikhail Longardt Leadership Award.
Captain Tynes was then selected to attend the Wententhal Business School's 161st Advanced Management Program for senior officers in Autumn 1933. Following completion of this program, in Spring 1935 he was selected as the Executive Officer of HGR-99A, the BLUE ANGELS, forward-deployed to Massada in the Badlands, piloting the 10HG-AST Kodiak. He participated in Operation DESERT STRIKE and was Primary Operations Officer for Operation DELIBERATE FORCE in early 1936, for which he earned his second Legion of Merit citation.
In Summer 1936, at his own request, Captain Tynes was detached for duty to the Northern Guard Intelligence Service. His initial role was as Assistant to the Deputy Director for Guard Systems Operations, Joint Staff, then later as Assistant Deputy Director to the Guard Space Reconnaissance Program. In Winter 1940, Captain Tynes was selected as special assistant to the Commander, Northern Guard Intelligence Service. Since then, Captain Tynes has served as Strike Squad Leader for a number of classified intelligence operations, including one that earned him an Intelligence Star.
Captain Tynes has 4,000 hours in 18 different Gear types, and 1200 hours in four aircraft types, and has made 320 carrier-arrested aircraft landings. He is a veteran of 110 major combat engagements including 35 as Primary Operations Officer. His personal decorations include two Legion of Merits, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Intelligence Star, the Gear Medal, the Prophet's Guard Medal, two Guard Commendation Medals, and other individual, campaign, service, and unit awards. He is married to the former Danae Patrickson of Franklin Harbor, in the Northern Lights Confederacy. They reside in Franklin Harbor with their two children, Mikhail and Alexa.

| Personality Profile |
Gabriel Tynes is a formal military man through and through.
He takes his duties as an officer very seriously, but holds himself somewhat distant from the men and women under his command. He often says that his duty is to inflict the maximum possible damage on the enemy while keeping the maximum number of those under his command alive.
As a field officer in battle, Captain Tynes is a by-the-book CO given to standard tactics who expects his orders to be followed. As a junior officer in the War of the Alliance, he learned the tactics of unequal warfare and is comfortable with applying those tactics in the field when he needs to. He is not generally given to improvisation in combat, and prefers to have backup plans prepared in advance should his standard tactics fail. Still, he occasionally has flashes of insight or inspiration that lead him to try new things in battle. In mounted combat, he pilots fire support Gears, holding his heavy firepower in reserve to be applied where needed, and otherwise concentrates on commanding his force. He is also a very experienced as a small unit commander in dismounted combat, preferring heavy assault rifles and a heavy sidearm he's carried since the War.
Outside of battle, Captain Tynes is an able administrator and is particularly adept at working the bureaucratic systems to acquire materials needed by his unit. He is proficient at the needed paperwork and procedures to keep a military unit supplied and operating (and can get impatient with those who are not). He's also established a large number of contacts and a great deal of influence with various branches of the Northern military and intelligence services as well as the NLC and CNCS governments. He has a prodigious memory for family details about these contacts and is not above granting or requesting favors to gain or broker influence. He is a long-time member of Prophet's Shield.
Outside of his official duties, Tynes is affable, even gregarious. Working with his contacts has made him an excellent negotiator, and he genuinely likes people. He holds an advanced degree in Psychology, and learned interrogation techniques as a member of the Northern Guard Intelligence Service. He is a very good story-teller (he has a large collection of "One Eyed Jack" stories) and before he got married, was a bit of a hell-raiser. Still, he does not suffer fools, the obtuse, or the self-deluded. He can and does rapidly get impatient with such people.
Captain Tynes is a Revisionist, and feels the Black Talons missions are a duty of peregrination. Still, he does not enforce his religion on others. He carries an enormous Revisionist sash for his Gear, but is not a chaplain. Gabriel Tynes is first and foremost a soldier, and might compare himself to the crusaders of old who carried crosses on their shields. He sees it as his duty to protect and guard those who cannot defend themselves.
