| Summary: | The "Garou," as they have been nicknamed among humans, are a telepathic, telekinetic sentient species of wolves (lupus sapiens). Their telepathic abilities allow them to project communications to and from any intelligent creature. Not exactly a "language," as such, the Garou communicate emotion, intent, and concept, in a way that is strikingly beautiful. They also have the ability to move small objects (weighing up to three pounds) or throw switches and the like with their minds, making them effective tool-users. It is not known how the Garou developed either ability, though it is suspected that they can somehow learn the psionic disciplines of other races. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Description: | Garou look like nothing so much as overlarge Earth wolves. Their bodies are covered in fur, and their eyes show startling intensity and intelligence. Unable to wear Starfleet uniforms, they generally carry their rank insignia and communicators on necklaces they wear. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Social structure: | Matriarchal packs | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Family: | Monogamous couples, with three to eight offspring per litter common | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Dominants: | Calm, intelligent, humorous | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes: | The most interesting thing about the Garou personality in general is their "pack mentality." This is not as conformist as a collective conscious; nevertheless, Garou will form a mental bond with those they consider their pack and will conform to their actions. In additon, a Garou can, in effect, read the thoughts of and sense the feelings of her pack-mates. Aboard a Starfleet vessel, a Garou will form this bond with ten to twelve other officers. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage, of course -- while a Garou will come at call or at need of one of her pack-mate fellow officers, it is virtually impossible for these officers to keep a secret from her, or her from them. This "pack mentality" also gives Garou an additional advantage: because she can read the thoughts of her pack-mate officers, she can virtually duplicate any skill or ability that these officers possess, taking the needed instructions on how to complete the action from her pack-mate's mind. At the Academy, it was virtually impossible to design a test that Garou couldn't score perfectly on for this reason. The concept of "cheating" is alien to the Garou. As they themselves put it: {{What is good for the Pack is good for One.}} |

| Starfleet Experience: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
There are three Garou in Starfleet at present, all of whom graduated Starfleet Academy in this year's class. None currently have a permanent station. Seeks-the-Truth, pictured at left, serves aboard the U.S.S. Bowen, NCC-1832-A. At the Academy, "Seeks" concentrated on Engineering, Science, and Medical disciplines. She seems to be most interested in, as she puts it, "mending that which is wounded." She is currently in demand from both the Engineering and Medical staffs aboard the Bowen. Her fur is copper-colored, and she is easily the most humorous of the three Garou in the fleet, and has even been known to play practical jokes. She also enjoys reading engineering, scientific, and medical journals.

| "Language" characteristics: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes: | As noted, Garou are telepathic, and can read and project thoughts across long distances (their exact communications range cannot be precisely measured, but with pack-mates especially, it is at least light-years across). They always refer to themselves as "One," and to their pack, or the ship's crew at large as "Many" or "the Pack." The Captain is always "Pack-Leader" -- they have no other concept of authority. In an attempt to conform to human standards, they generally project language at those they are trying to communicate with, but can and sometimes will project mental images or pictures if they can't find the words. They have their own vocabulary for Starfleet technical terms -- they find most technical terms very amusing, almost always replying to such {{Word-without-meaning.}}. They have their own, rather descriptive, names for many technologies, noted below: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
