In later years, the expression in the M64 galaxy would be "Coronado
diplomacy."
It was the sort of diplomacy in which U.S.S. Coronado came to the
defense of Apori refugee ships, helping protect them from Pfhor
warships... and somewhat less than three years later, coming to the
defense of those very same Pfhor warships against Xur carriers.
Coronado was first at it in M64, but she certainly wasn't the last.
In later years, it became standard practice for Defender warships
faced with questionable relationships: defend your would-be friends,
and if in the process you make an enemy... well, a solid friendship
was worth that, and the Defenders valued their friends.
The end result was worth it: the Apori, though somewhat shaky allies,
were still allies. And tomorrow, a treaty would be signed between the
two planets of the Pfhor Cooperative and Reor'sa.
Of course, there were probably other parts of the galaxy where the
Watchers had no influence, where the Pfhor had survived S'buuth's
tender mercies, where they had survived perhaps to hide, perhaps to
cooperate, perhaps to conquer and expand. Perhaps when those Pfhor
were found, they would sign their own treaty, or perhaps they would
attack. But those were problems for another day.
For tomorrow, there was a treaty to be signed.

"We've got a gate."
"Say distance."
"One point two four one ex six. Showing up on LIDAR big as life.
Might be a test gate, but I can't tell from here. Permission to
investigate."
"Granted. Careful."
"Always."
