Notes from the Admiral:
Happy holidays, all! :) As I noted this week, the Coronado sim is
ON for the next two weeks by vote of the simmers. However, anyone
who cannot attend will receive an automatic announced absence. I'll
hope to see you, but won't expect to... ;)
In the meantime, whether your holiday season includes Coro simming
or not, I hope that you enjoy it immensely, get good presents (if
that's your thing), and come back rested and refreshed for Coro's
final sims in 2004!
A warm welcome to Somansky, who joined us this week and has already

Sim Title: "Atonement", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Coronado confirms the presence of Pfhor and Pfhor transports in the
system given to us by the S'pht. The Admiral orders Coronado into
the system to investigate further.
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado entered the system identified by the S'pht as being a
possible Pfhor stronghold. The system is inside a planetary nebula
being formed by a nearby red giant star. There were two gas giants
in the system, each with attendant moons. The inner gas giant had
three moons that were class M. On reaching the system, we were able
to determine that there are Pfhor in the system: several of their
transports were visible travelling between the moons, and two were
apparently involved in gas harvesting operations near the outer gas
giant. The Admiral ordered that Coronado proceed further into the
system to get us a closer look.
As a result, Captain Daren ordered the ship's holographic defenses
prepared. With a number of transports already moving in the system
and the indifferent nature of Pfhor sensors, he judged that we'd be
safe enough disguising ourselves as another Pfhor transport and
using this ruse to get closer to the inner gas giant. In the
meantime, we got our first look at the locals: a previously unknown
6-limbed species, whose technology is on the cusp of
industrialization. The approach prompted a discussion in the CIC
about the plan once Coronado was in position. The Admiral
eventually decided not to risk a first contact -- we don't know if
this species is a conquered race or willing collaborators with the
Pfhor. As a result, we can't risk them letting the Pfhor know of
our presence.
The mission therefore changed from first contact to reconnaissance:
an away team beamed down to the planet and headed for what appeared
to be a central government building on one of the three moons. Once
inside, the away team will look for documents or records showing
what the relationship is here between this species and their Pfhor
occupiers. As the mission proceeds, several aboard work on personal
projects. In particular, Commander Farley and his team work to
complete the upgrade's to the ship's defensive systems, even though
it is unlikely that they will operate properly in this particular
nebula due to the lack of Watcher influence.
