Notes from the Admiral:
As you have all heard by now, our crew rotation continues, with us
losing one and gaining one this week. Dolin aka Lt. Ariana Marist,
has unfortunately had to step down from all of her UCIP posts,
including her post aboard U.S.S. Coronado, due to RL issues. I hope
that we'll see her back sooner or later. ;)
At the same time, one of Coronado's longest term simmers rejoined us
this week. Santiago was Coronado's longest-serving Chief Medical
Officer, whose last sim was August 1999. Four years later, he's
back and will hopefully be finishing out Coro's run with us. :-)
Welcome back, Santi! We missed you!

Sim Title: "Atonement", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Some of the Defenders learn what Dauntless has been doing for the
last six years: exploring behind the lines of the Pfhor Hegemony...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado continued to hold in orbit of Reor'sa, pending some kind of
resolution to the S'pht destroyer also in orbit. The S'pht claimed
to enter the system with a diplomatic mission in mind, but the
purpose of that mission was unknown... until now. As the transport
lifted off the surface, Rear Admiral Lora Kor informed Coronado's
command staff that the S'pht believe that there is a Pfhor
stronghold very near Reorsan space. The stronghold is in an
energetic nebula orbiting a red giant star approximately 100 light-
years "northeast" of Reor'sa. Such nebulae can be several light-
years in diameter and enclose several systems, and we have seen
areas where the influence of the Watchers waxes and wanes. This
area might very well shelter one of the latter locations, and if the
Watchers were unable to influence events in this area, then Pfhor in
that area might very well have survived.
The mission brings back memories of S'buuth, the S'pht that was
aboard Coronado for some months. We know that he joined the
Watchers, and that his first action upon joining them was to visit
his wrath on the Pfhor species, fully intending to wipe all of them
out. This resulted in the internal collapse of the Hegemony, and if
there are Pfhor in this nebula, it is unlikely that they are going
to be gracious or friendly. As a result, Lora Kor ordered a recon
in force into the nebula, comprising Coronado, four Reorsan escort
destroyers, and one of our own captured Pfhor warships for backup.
If the Watchers do not influence events inside this nebula, the
smaller ships will be at a significant disadvantage since we believe
it is possible -- even likely -- that it is the influence of the
Watchers that allows false matter to operate. Without false matter,
our primary defenses and weapons against the Pfhor will be useless...
Coronado therefore prepared herself for what is likely to be a
combat mission; in addition, the Admiral asked General Ironside to
see to it that a strong Marine force is available if needed. Not
only will Coronado's Marines participate, but U.S.S. Douglas
MacArthur and her contingent will also be kept close at hand. Since
the system is some distance from known space, we will have to
operate in a "leapfrog" mode, in which we'll have to stop frequently
to conduct LORASON scans of the surrounding space to make it safe
for slipstream travel. The Admiral appeared to be in a rush to
reach this location; if it is the influence of the Watchers that
causes his illness, then we might be able to learn how to generate a
field that will isolate Lora Kor from the Watchers in the nebula.
However, the Admiral made it clear that the mission is more
important than any one person... even himself.
