Notes from the Admiral:
Every once in a while, I like to throw in a nice, chaotic, combat
sim. ;) This one certainly qualified, with lots of attacks,
defenses, reverses, retreats, and counter-attacks. Nice job, all!
This is one of those rare Coro sims that might run four weeks.
There's enough still going on that I don't know if we'll be able to
wrap everything up in part 3. In particular, nobody's made any
attempt to solve the larger problem yet: what are we doing in 2302?

Sim Title: "Effect and Cause", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Dr. Patricia Lopez, our expert in multi-spatial physics, wakes Lt.
Commander Jim Owens with some startling news: Gates opened in the
Fourth Chamber could conceivably be used to transport people and
ships not only across the universe, but across time as well. A
properly opened Gate will therefore let the traveller go anywhere
and anywhen he or she cares to...
During the Sim:

We still found ourselves in the Milky Way, 2302, for reasons which
are unclear. Coronado's crew broke into fire teams, first
attempting to secure deck 4 against any possible invasion, and then
making plans to retake the ship. First priority was given to
evacuating deck 2; several members of the teams there felt that deck
2 was not worth defending and possibly too difficult to defend to
boot. As a result, the armory on deck 2 was emptied and the weapons
carried down to Sickbay on deck 4. At first, this was done without
significant resistance from the Klingon forces on deck 5, but later
runs found themselves under semi-effective attack. Lieutenant
D'rall, in particular, took refuge in the turbolift storage bay
adjacent to deck 3. Most everyone else made it to deck 4
successfully, and Admiral Lora Kor took Sickbay on deck 4 as his
command post from which he could keep an eye on the "big picture."
Fire teams took the corridors to the port and starboard.
This was no sooner done then D'rall heard a hissing sound coming
from above her. Soon after, it was obvious that the Klingons had
indeed taken deck 2, probably from the Bridge, and were heading down
the turboshaft toward her position. The Flight Ops officer got into
a short melee with a Klingon on his way down. The good news was
that she disabled the Klingon; the bad news is that she fell from
the ladder way and was injured in the process. Fortunately, she
landed near Sickbay and was pulled within. Meanwhile, the Klingons
also attempted a number of attacks using the one-person lifts that
are part of the emergency impulse reactors connecting decks 4 and 5.
Two assaults were repulsed before the third found a weak point in
the Starfleet lines and exploited it, giving the Klingons a brief
foothold on deck 4. All the while, the Klingons were also using
Coronado's single shuttlecraft to bring in reinforcements from the
six cargo pods Coronado is towing.
Once the third Klingon assault was broken up, General Ironside was
determined to go on the offensive, and the Admiral came up with an
initial plan: if we can greatly increase the range to the cargo pods
and take the shuttlecraft out of the equation, then the Klingons
will be forced to fight only with the forces already aboard
Coronado. As a result, Ensign Karen Davies, one of this Coronado's
officers, took the job of disabling the shuttlecraft. Meanwhile,
Ironside led a team to take the emergency impulse reactors and their
associated engines. Meanwhile, Tal took a team forward to deflector
control to attempt to get a signal out to U.S.S. Churchill, the
closest available Starfleet ship, for assistance. Though we seem to
have a good interim plan, one major problem remains: why are we in
2302, who brought us here, and how do we get back to our own time
and place?
