The lattice and its attached platforms had begun life as Mobile Repair
Facility Sapphire, built in situ in the Penthia system. She even
still had her single warp nacelle attached near her control cab, and
four impulse decks mounted in what had once been the facility's aft.
However, two years later, Sapphire was now mobile in name only.
Though the nacelle was still attached, as were the four impulse decks,
her mass had grown to the point where neither drive system could move
the facility very far.
Sooner or later, that warp nacelle would probably be used to repair a
ship in dock.
Mobile Repair Facility Sapphire was now the Sapphire Small Craft Yard,
part of the larger Penthia Shipyards complex. Two sub-lattices and
more than a dozen smaller construction platforms were tethered to the
main framework, making her the largest yard in the Penthia system. A
half-dozen smaller yards were also hard at work, including the Emerald
Cruiser Yard, where a Vanguard class ship was nearly complete. Nearly
25,000 sentients called the Penthia system home now, split evenly
between the yards and the growing Penthia II colony.
A dozen or more packets of various types and sizes entered the Penthia
system every day, as well as eight to ten freighters bringing
materials and volatiles from the nearby Tarndare system and the more
distant Artemis system. One of the three packets owned by Whitestone
Enterprises entered the system late one morning in June 2404. She
generated no special interest.
In addition to the small craft construction platforms and sub-
lattices, four "office" complexes were also tethered to Sapphire.
Each of these office complexes was capable of housing 150 persons and
provided both living and working spaces. One of these four complexes
contained the offices of Whitestone Enterprises and it was to this
complex that the packet angled toward.
It was to these offices that Tebrun Lora Kor came. He had a headache,
of course, but was able to keep it in the background of his thoughts,
particularly given the sights in the Penthia system. Lora Kor found
his eye drawn to one of the tethered platforms, where a Liberator-type
Wraith under construction was obviously nearing completion.
