Sim Title: "Odyssey", Part 1

During the Sim:

Having recently destroyed the rogue asteroid that allowed the Xur to
secretly rift less than a light-year from Xanadu Coronado begins a
sweeping patrol of the outer edge of the Regency system looking to
clear the system of other similar asteroids and debris.
Coronado soon comes across another asteroid in the "very dirty"
system. It is similar in size to the previously destroyed asteroid.
As the weapons get ready to fire, Commodore William Daren and others
see for a split second what appears to be the face of Commander Darek
Smith, a former Coronado Executive Officer. Some dismiss the image
quickly as an odd shadow, but the vision is soon confirmed by
Canterbury who reports vocally having seen the face.
The weapons systems fire at the seemingly easy asteroid target, and
miss. Canterbury is certain that the targeting sensors are locked onto
this particular asteroid, but repeat firings lend the exact same
result. No hit. Engineering performs a diagnostic on the targeting
system and finds a latent subroutine that is now being performed due
to this asteroid showing up on the scanners. The subroutine causes
the weapons to shift focus just before firing and miss the asteroid
completely. The subroutine has a Level 5 command code associated with
it, entered by Commander Darek Smith on April 7th 2404.
When it seems that fate has blessed this asteroid, Daren asks
Lieutenant Brooks for a full scan. It turns out that the asteroid is
hollow and has two small chambers inside, big enough to be considered
small rooms. When it is revealed further that there is the presence
of an atmospheric generator, a holoemitter, and other Starfleet
equipment Daren takes Brooks inside the asteroid for a closer look.
Inside, they find evidence that the cavernous interior was drilled out
on purpose and not a natural formation. The room has lighting and the
generator is keeping it habitable, for now. It doesn't appear to have
much power left, so the team acts qucikly and find the holoprojector.
Darek Smith's image greets Daren by title and he delivers a non-
interactive warning to them.
He tells them that when Xanadu is separated from The Way in a few days
(a process called sundering) it will cause a tear that will form right
on top of Xanadu. The Hexamon do not know about this. The Xur have
been scouting Xanadu and know it's location. They also know where the
tear will form. When the sundering occurs, the end of the Way will be
open to space. The Xur will be ready for this and they will get some
ships into the Way. The Hexamon will not be in any condition to stop
them. He says we will have to go in and stop them, and the Hexamon
will not be able to rescue anyone sent it.
"Send in your people, destroy those fighters, and get back out before
the Way seals and the opening is gone forever. Both your people and
mine are counting on you. We've already seen a universe in which you
fail. It ain't a pretty picture. And since a tear is going to form,
you'll have to deal with that too."
