Notes from Jester:
And so we say good bye and good night to Coronado. I have no speech:
what I wished to say, I said last night, for the simmers of Coronado.
You are my friends, my family, and for most of us, the ending of
Coronado is the end of one story and the beginning of another, just
like the episode title says. ;) We'll take a week or two off, and
then we'll press into Good v. Evil and begin the writing of a new
story.
Some of you, I hope, will be with me to see the end of that story.
Experience teaches me that some of you will not.
But for now, we can lean back, satisfied that what we have created has
had worth and has brought fun and joy to the simmers that played here.
We'll have the memories and we'll have the stories.
But most importantly, we'll have each other. Good bye and good night,
Coronado. You carried us far and well.
Sim Title: "The End is the Beginning"
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
In an infinite moment in time, Brian Aldur addresses the Odyssey and
tells them of the journey that lies before them. In the past, a
conversation between Aldur and Commodore Daren. In the future, a
conversation between Lesabeth Kor and Savant. They go their ways.
We go ours.
During the Sim: (Written by our very own McC. Thanks, McC! :) )
---------------
With another Xur attack surely impending, Coronado and her crew can
do little but prepare for it and hope that preparations to sunder
Xanadu's Fourth Chamber from the Way are complete before they arrive.
Nevertheless, the task force defending Xanadu stands ready to defend
it at all costs. Meanwhile, aboard Xanadu itself, General Ironside
continues to feel as if he has something of particular importance
that he must do, though he is uncertain at this point what that
actually is -- should he follow Odyssey into the Way, or should he
remain behind?
The call to action comes quickly when six rifts appear, unleashing Xur
carriers. These rifts are soon followed by thirty-six more (around
each initial rift), which divulge a swarm of Xur fighter craft.
Another four rifts, these much larger than the other Xur rifts, appear
near the Meyer gas giant...four large rifts which reveal Apori
vessels! The Apori vessels act as defense ships, rendering any
friendly vessel they are in proximity to slightly out-of-synch with
the rest of the universe. The Alliance ships are able to battle the
Xur, but the Xur are unable to fight back.
A furious fleet engagement ensues. Though the Apori are able to
render many ships invulnerable, there are still many more that are
outside the Apori defensive perimeter. These ships take the brunt of
the attack, though they perform admirably against their Xur opponents.
Coronado, escorted by Blackrazor, is among these vessels.
And then the tear opens.
The personnel on Xanadu, having prepared for this, launch a Wraith
Redeemer to attempt to close the tear. Additionally, while the
Alliance fleet has been engaged, they have been finalizing
preparations to sunder the Way. The battle also seems to start
turning in the Alliance's favor. As the Xur carriers reach the front
lines, Defiant wings unleash a hail of false matter torpedoes.
Vanguard also stealthily approaches the carrier group, unleashing a
hell of Commander Farley's new viral torpedoes into the ship, doing
terrible damage and cause a great deal of chaos.
Xanadu's Third Chamber machinery begins to power up and as it does so,
so too does the tear increase in power -- far more power than a tear
has been typically observed to produce. At this point, Xur fighters
also reach Xanadu and invade the First Chamber.
With the tear suddenly bigger and more powerful, and the Wraith
Redeemer unprepared for it, the Redeemer abruptly explodes prior to
attempting to close the tear. As this happens, one of the Apori
defense ships also detonates, creating a large gap in the defensive
screen. Coronado and Blackrazor are amongst those that are suddenly
undefended. Taking notice of the threat of Xur fighters invading
Xanadu, both Coronado and Blackrazor make for the asteroid-starship at
top speed, with Coronado executing an in-system slipstream micro-jump
to arrive in an instant. Xanadu's own defensive fighters also rise up
to meet the invading Xur.
Moments later, Olmy orders the detonation of the charges surrounding
the Fourth Chamber. Their detonation is wildly disruptive, throwing
just about everyone but holograms and starship crews to their feet,
and also rendering Xanadu powerless, and in two pieces! But the
Fourth Chamber has been sundered. It's only a matter of time before
the entrance to the Way collapses.
Shortly thereafter, six battle satellites emerge from the Way,
unleashing a defensive hailstorm of fire into the Xur fighters still
intent on entering the Way before it closes forever. Coronado and
Blackrazor, as well as the contingent of Xanadu defense fighters,
join the satellites. Meanwhile, Xanadu's internal power reactivates,
but this time the singularities are gone and have been replaced bright
tubes of plasma.
The hole created by the Apori ship's destruction finally begins to
take its toll. Xur fighters swarm towards the entrance to the Way.
It's all the Alliance ships can do to prevent them from reaching their
objective. Fortune has not entirely turned against the Alliance,
however. The viral torpedoes are having their desire effect,
rendering some of the Xur friendly to the Alliance, which creates a
great deal of chaos amongst the Xur.
With his task completed, Olmy departs with Drexler, leaving Ironside
and Savant behind in Xanadu's command center. The General and the
hologram attempt to reinitialize Alicia, who is the only one capable
of stabilizing Xanadu in its current condition. If they cannot
restore her, Xanadu -- or what's left of it -- is liable to tear
itself apart.
Outside, Olmy's vessel dives into the way and so too do some of the
Xur fighters. Despite valiant efforts by the Alliance, there are
simply too many to stop them all. With disregard for their own safety
and future, Banshees, Wraiths, and even Blackrazor dive into the Way
after the Xur fighters. Coronado remains at the mouth of the Way,
doing her best to eliminate any additional fighters attempting to
gain entry. With so many fighters intent on the Way, however, the
Xur carriers are left totally vulnerable and are soon rendered
inoperable or decimated by the Alliance fleet.
With so many Alliance ships within the tear, Savant grows worried
that some of them will be unable to escape in time. Lesabeth Kor,
leading the Redeemers, tells Savant that if they are to be trapped,
then so be it -- they must defend the Way. To add finality to her
words, Olmy's craft soon links with the singularity and begins rapidly
transiting down the Way, with the singularity itself beginning to
collapse behind it. General Ironside, meanwhile, has joined the
group in the Way, piloting Nightmare 14. With a last goodbye message
to Kor from Savant, the Way closes. Simultaneously, a second Wraith
Redeemer dives into the tear, closing it. The Alliance is victorious.
Within the Way itself, the battle continues, though briefly. The
Alliance forces quickly overwhelm the Xur and are left to contemplate
their lonely status. Aboard Olmy's flawship, Drexler and Savant
listen as he explains that the Way is being disrupted by the rapid
transit of the City through the Way. Ironside, meanwhile, coordinates
with the rest of the trapped Alliance ships and directs them towards a
Gate of which he knows. Aided by one of the satellites, the Gate is
activated and Ironside, Kor, Blackrazor, and their small fleet emerge
from the Way near a brown-blue planet: the Frant home world. The
passage is rough, however, and many of the smaller vessels are
rendered totally inoperative. Blackrazor, much larger than the
others, still functions and conducts rescue operations. Coronado
engages slipstream to rendezvous with Blackrazor and her fleet.
And this is where we leave them. We have followed them far, but their
journey now lies along a different thread from ours. Their story will
continue...victories and defeats and triumphs and disappointments.
But they no longer need our help; we are needed elsewhere. We are
eternal, and there is time enough. We will wish them well on their
journey, as we begin ours. Again. As Coronado drops to impulse to
rescue her kindred, we depart. We are eternal, and there are other
gardens to tend.
