Notes from the Admiral:
Nice role-playing all the way around, everyone! With one notable
exception (::smirks at McC::), everyone appeared to stay involved
either with the on-going plots or with their own sub-plots, which I
really like to see. Nice job! :)
See you all next week!
Sim Title: "Silhouette", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Caring Thoughts, Coronado's former Flight Operations Officer,
appears in Xanadu and urgently asks to speak to Captain Daren. This
is surprisingly only because Caring Thoughts vanished without a
trace more than a year ago...
During the Sim:
---------------
Captain Daren's team, aboard Teresa, successfully made contact with
a Frant. At first, the Frant -- they don't appear to have names, or
even any concept of individuality -- was curious why Jjaro would not
land at their defense tower, as they apparently always have. Daren
admitted the team was not Jjaro, despite the Frant's belief that
anyone who looked like them must be. In this roundabout way,
Daren's team was able to learn more information about the Jjaro:
they visit the planet from the Gate in orbit, they come in ships
similar to our shuttle craft, and sometimes Frants travel into space
with them. As for themselves, the Frants appeared to be an
extremely primitive culture technologically, but possessing many
inherent benefits, notably telekinesis and telepathy. The team
slowly came to the disappointing conclusion that Frants might not be
much more to the Jjaro than incredibly intelligent pets. This
impression was strengthened when the Frant offered to return to
Coronado with Lieutenant D'rall.
Meanwhile in Xanadu, Tebrun's zhian'tara continued with the
integration of Yolad, Kor's first host, into Commander Marcy. Yolad
is one of Kor's earliest hosts, the most patient and most
diplomatic, and was also a key member of the diplomatic team that
negotiated the Federation Accords several hundred years ago. In
this role, Yolad was able to give Tebrun a few clues about the key
factors that resulted in the formation of the Federation. As Tebrun
was talking to Yolad, Colonel Prescot decided to use Belar's own
weaknesses against him, and got him drunk while in Captain Bentall's
body! This allowed Captain Bentall, as the host, to exercise some
measure of control over Belar. This proceeded for some time,
however, and allowed Tal some time to link Timor, Kor's first host,
to Commander Ma'Aru. Timor, unsurprisingly, could not help gloating
a bit that Tebrun had called on his advice so extensively for the
fighting against the Pfhor Hegemony. But, he grudgingly allowed
that at least Tebrun was practical to use the tools and abilities
he had on hand to prosecure the War most efficiently.
On the Frant homeworld, Captain Daren decided that the team had
learned all they were likely to for now (and made a joke, indicating
that "You've spoken to one Frant, you've spoken to them all,"
something that appears to be the literal truth) and ordered a return
to Coronado, without Lieutenant D'rall's potential "pet Frant."
While en route, he asked D'rall to take the shuttle in for a closer
look at the Gate. The team aboard the shuttle had no way of knowing
that as they were doing this, the singularities within Xanadu were
acting very strangely: oscillating in a similar fashion as to the
way they did just prior to the end of the Pfhor conflict. At that
time, several Coronado officers and personnel for a time found
themselves in an alternate universe, the apparent effect of "threads
touching," as we believe the singularities to be. The fact that it
was happening again indicates that at some point in the future, we
will learn how to operate the Jjaro Catapult. Such oscillations are
the result of catapult use, the effect in this case preceding the
cause. As the shuttle approached the Gate, the effect reached its
maximum, engulfing not only a number of personnel within Xanadu, but
-- through the Gate -- the crew of the shuttle and Coronado as well.
