From the pages of the Universal Enquirer, stardate 239708.29:

...in previous issues, we have already revealed the amazing
coincidence surrounding drinks called (phonetically) the "gin and
tonic," with examples on more than 40 worlds across the Federation
with this name. Though the drinks vary from water served just
barely over room temperature on one world to a beverage that most
humanoids would find instantly fatal on another, the phonetic
pronunciation of the names of these beverages are the same! For
more information, see our issue of Stardate 239708.15 (backorder
 copies are available).

Last week, in another amazing demonstration of parallel development,
the Universal Enquirer revealed that more than 70 known species have
edible fare that tastes exactly like Earth's dish called Swedish
Meatballs. Though the name and preparation differs and the method
in which this dish is served also varies (it forms part of the
traditional breakfast on many parts of Tellar!), the taste of the
dish from planet to planet is the same! For more information, see
our issue of Stardate 239708.21 (backorder copies are available).

These two examples alone conclusively prove that Federation
scientists are not doing the required research into the theory of
parallel development. The last reputed scientist to examine this
theory, Dr. Richard Galen, died mysteriously (and suspiciously) in
2369 and his research has not been resumed since! We call upon the
Federation Science Council to address this serious and potentially
fascinating problem! If further proof is needed of the validity of
the theory of parallel development, this week, we consider language
and culture. It is amazing how many planets in our galaxy share
 similar phrases and pithy sayings...

Earth: "Too many cooks spoil the soup."

Beta 3: "One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary person. No
machine can do the work of one extraordinary person."

Gilgamesh 9: "You're having one riot, you get one Marine."

Tellar: "A trough rarely needs more than one pig."

Romulus: "The only true secret is the one known by only one person."

Pentarus 5: "One man can be dumb, but to be truly stupid requires
                teamwork."

Qo'nos: "A running man can slit a thousand throats in a single
                night."

Vulcan: "Ask one person to perform a task and he will perform it.
Ask a committee to perform a task and they will report
that the task cannot be accomplished."

Cait: "How many gardeners does it take to pull one weed?"

 [PLAYBACK PAUSED. CONTINUE?]
