Notes from the Admiral:
This week, Coronado says goodbye to one of her most long-standing
and beloved simmers. Sonya, aka Commander Zunite Oswald, also aka
Commander Sandra Nouveau, has been with Coronado from Coro's second
sim ever, 5 September 1997. As a result, she has been part of the
Coro sim -- and part of many of our lives -- for six years now. I
could wax eloquent with dozens of Sonya stories, but instead I will
simply say: thank you, Sonya. Thanks for sticking with me and with
all of us for so long. :) I hope (as I'm sure everyone does) that
you'll be back for the fantasy sim!
Other than that one bit of very bad news, I think the nine-part arc
came off without a hitch. At least I didn't hear screams of pain
while it was going on; maybe I just wasn't in the channel enough.
;) In any case, the next several weeks are a bit more relaxing (and
more normal), leading up to our Halloween sim on October 27th. As a
result, at least until then, I can hope to promise a more "normal"
simming environment. ;)

Sim Title: "Archangel", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Sometimes, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. In this particular
case, a less-than-reputable news agency points out that hundreds of
planets have phrases showing that one extraordinary individual can
be more effective than a committee. In the process, the same
article demonstrates that one word can have many meanings depending
on the person using it...
During the Sim:
---------------
What everyone hoped would be the final iteration began with
something a little unusual: the Captain called for both Commander
Tal and Major Prescot to be taken into custody. Simultaneously, in
the CIC, the Admiral asked General Ironside to voluntarily turn
himself in. Also simultaneously, Commander Ma'Aru had Commander
Farley sent to his quarters and secured there. What everyone seemed
to realize at the same moment -- assisted by the fact that we
remember each iteration when it is complete -- that only those who
visit the supposed Jjaro tower later became subverted. As a result,
securing all of these individuals was the only way to ensure that
there would not be another loop... or at least that the Adversary
would not be the cause of one.
This, however, still left the problem of determining how to break
all of us (and indeed, the galaxy as far as we could tell) out of
this loop. The Admiralty staff, armed with the information Savant
downloaded in her previous iteration, headed back for Xanadu's Third
Chamber once Coronado had reached the asteroid-starship. The
Admiral was a little unclear on the full plan, but seemed to think
that the Third Chamber machinery would allow us to break the cycle
that we're trapped in. Meanwhile, the Xur, apparently frustrated at
their lack of success in the L036/L037 in previous iterations,
launched an assault on Xanadu and the ships defending her in J043,
45 light-years away. Battle was soon joined, through the Defender
forces in the system were initially quite light.
As a result, this lent an air of desperation to the proceedings.
Lora Kor fought to get Kelaka inside the Third Chamber before she
could be intercepted. Meanwhile, Coronado called for help, and soon
it seemed that every Defender starship across the entire sector (if
not the entire Grid) was dropping what they were doing to reach
J043. More and more Defender reinforcements poured into the system,
pushing the Xur back despite their use of the blue-grey spherical
weapons(?)-lifeforms(?). However, they were not driven back before
Coronado was struck by a sphere, possibly infecting Lieutenant
D'rall. As the battle raged, Commander Savant in the Third Chamber
was successfully able to do... something... with the Third Chamber
machinery that seemed to break the loop. We've escaped the trap.
But now we have to learn what it meant and why it is there.
