 Notes from the Admiral:

I'm sorry that everyone couldn't attend the GT this year; you missed
quite a fun event, particularly the looks on people's (Fraser's, in
particular) face as I lowered the boom on them. ::snickers::

I very much enjoyed myself at this particular sim, and hope you all
 did too. ;)

"See" you all next week! :)

Sim Title: "The Fire Within", Part 2

 Teaser and Pre-Sim:
 -------------------
Meanwhile, back in the Milky Way, Jean-Luc Picard has a final meeting
with Q, in which he sees a small part of the big picture.

 During the Sim:
 ---------------
The "third iteration" begins with Admiral Lora Kor immediately
ordering an all stop of all ships approaching the L036/L037 system.
With Coro and the other ships with her having gone through two prior
iterations, he wanted to take a few minutes and consider the
situation and try to pull together what we learned in the first two.
This turned out to be quite a bit of information, though most of it
was what seemed to be disconnected fragments. In particular, we know
that the Xur would attempt to take control of the L036/L037 system no
matter what we did. As a result, the Admiral's first directive was
to order every possible Defender ship into the area. He made it
clear that our highest priority now is to hold the system at any cost
-- we cannot allow the Xur to control the system and ambush Xanadu.

As a result, the Admiralty staff worked to get all possible ships
into the area. Meanwhile, both the Admiralty staff and the command
staff worked on a strategy to take and hold the system against the
Xur warships moving to take it. In addition, however, there was
another problem: on at least one prior iteration, Commander Tal was
subverted. General Ironside therefore decided to take that problem
as his own, taking Tal into custody and having her moved to Sickbay.
The General's thought was that perhaps it would be detectable.

Unfortunately, there wasn't much time to plan much farther ahead than
that. We know that the Xur ships are on a time-table, and will enter
the system whether we fight for the system or not. As a result, the
Admiral's last action before heading to Sickbay was to order as many
ships as possible into ambush positions in the system. The Admiral,
of course, has been rendered unconscious through every iteration for
some reason which is still unexplained.

The ambush, however, worked perfectly. The Xur ships entered the
system along their "predicted" paths, allowing the Defender ships to
get the drop on the would-be ambushers. In particular, before
heading to Sickbay, the Admiral ordered all ships not to spare the
false matter torpedoes. We learned in a prior iteration that these
are very effective against Xur carriers. It proved no less true this
iteration. In short order, the Xur carrier fleet was destroyed,
leaving the system in the control of the Defenders.

This turned out to be the good news. For the "second time," General
Ironside moved into the Jjaro defense tower to download the data that
the ancients left for us there. This time, however, he took Savant
along for the ride on the latter's suggestion; Savant suggested that
perhaps the analog of Smith in the tower might recognize her. This
proved to be the case in spades: Smith warned Savant... against
Ironside! This warning proved all too apt: though Ironside took the
data, he also moved to immediately destroy the Jjaro tower. Savant
"took the General into custody" shortly thereafter by beaming him
back to the ship but maintaining him in transporter stasis.

So, "this iteration" appears to have been a success... but both
Commander Tal and General Ironside are under a cloud... and we're not
sure of the value of the data we now possess or what to do with it.
