Notes from the Admiral:
Travelling again, this time to the Coronado "get-together," or GT.
However, things are not exactly off to auspicious start. ;) As
I type this, I'm trapped in Detroit, unable to get to the site of
the GT. The good news (heh) is that the sim report's done, I guess.
Lots of changes to Coro's crew complement this week. In particular,
please welcome Boyd who is joining Coro's crew as 1st Lieutenant
Michael Bishop. Dolin, aka PO/1 Bridget Bordeux, is also retiring
that character in favor of another, Lieutenant Ariana Marist, who is
joining the Tactical department.
See you all next week! :)
Sim Title: "The Fire Within", Part 1
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
The Aeon contemplate the battle to come. Only sometimes are their
representatives obvious before they take action in that battle...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado and the other Defender ships in the area gather in the L035
system, following the most recent "iteration" of the time loop that
Coro and the other ships in the area appear to be caught in. First,
however, we're still dealing with the implications of that iteration.
In particular, General Ironside was badly injured and Rear Admiral
Lora Kor is still unconscious for reasons which are not clear. The
medical team available did their best to deal with both these
problems and the death -- again! -- of Commander Velorna Tal. Major
Gregg, in particular, seemed very anxious to have the General back on
his feet due to the changing tactical situation on Xanadu. Soon
enough, the Admiral at least was back on his feet.
As for Xanadu herself, Commander Savant managed to contact Alicia
aboard the asteroid-starship. After being brought up-to-date on the
situation in the L036/L037 system -- in particular, the ambush,
regarding which Coro still has good sensor data -- Alicia elected not
to bring Xanadu into the system. She made it clear she was going to
override the programming of the asteroid-starship to prevent entry
into the system. This appeared -- at first, at least -- to be a good
idea. It would keep the Jjaro artifact safe while we consider our
options. Given this, the Admiral belayed a harrassing attack that he
had just ordered into the L036/L037 system.
However, that still left the system in the control of the Xur fleet.
Just as in the first iteration, however, a subspace disruption began
forming in the system. This time, however, Alicia and the Admiral
independently came to the conclusion not to attempt to stop the
expansion of the disruption and instead home that it would do our
work for us. Assuming it expands quickly enough, the disruption
might destroy the Xur fleet itself. This move, though well-thought-
out, turned out to be another mistake.
Without Xanadu there to check the expansion of the disruption, it
expanded without limit, soon interacting with the dilithium asteroid
field in the system. This caused the disruption to expand
exponentially. The good news is that this appeared to destroy the
Xur fleet. The bad news is that the disruption expanded quickly
enough to destroy the L036/L037 system in the process. Possibly
related to this, Coronado and the other Defender ships in the L035
system lost access to their subspace-based systems, including warp
drive and faster-than-light computing. The ansible, however,
appeared to still be in operation.
With the latter, Savant was able to contact Alicia, to learn that the
disruption was still expanding out of control, and threatened to
destroy everything in the area. This included the starships in L035,
most of which were unable to escape owing to the loss of subspace-
based systems. Realizing that allowing the disruption to expand out
of control was in fact a mistake, the Admiral gambled asking
Commander Drexler to transmit our new sensor logs into the Jjaro data
file. This caused another temporal jump, again a few hours into the
past, resetting all we have accomplished to date... but at least
salvaging the situation so that we can try again. If we dare to.
