Notes from the Admiral:
Interestingly, I haven't received a single comment from anyone on
whether you thought "tactical simming" was something worth doing
again. ::grins:: Please give me your thoughts on this.
Lots of crew changes this week, with Dolin returning from LOA as
PO/1 Bridget Bordeux (though watch for a character change from her
coming up soon!). In addition, LCdr. Aramis Skylooker, aka
LewisSharp, is rejoining Coro! Huzzah and welcome back!
In addition, I have declared 2Lt. Jack Quinn missing in action and
removed him from the roster.
Finally, you'll note that a couple of Coro personnel are in the
process of putting together follow-on sims for Coronado. :) Please
feel free to assist them in these efforts if you like, and/or
transfer characters to these "sub-sims." UCIP Starfleet is in the
process of reopening new sim development and with Coro concluding in
another year, this is a good time to think about what you'd like to
do with your character when Coro comes to an end...

Sim Title: "Tradition of Losing", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

An excerpt from the (future) autobiography of Brian Aldur, in which
he talks about how many of the people who lived through founding the
initial settlements in M64 had to live with knowledge of at least
some future events... and how this knowledge affected them both
personally and in the settlements they were trying to create.
During the Sim:
---------------
The race continued past Marker 5, and though Kelaka was one of the
first ships to be destroyed, she was definitely not the last as the
area beyond Marker 5 became a bloodbath. In short order, all of the
teams except for the four teams from Coro, two from Vanguard, and
three Ryla teams were eliminated. Even this list did not last
long...
Captain Daren's Minerva, with Major Prescot also on board, was soon
the next casualty, when the shuttle strayed too close to one of the
Ryla Whipsnake heavy fighters. However, this particular Whipsnake
appeared to be greatly overpowered compared to the others in the
race, though its stealth characteristics prevented an active scan of
the craft.
At about the same time, someone hacked into the Wraith and fired her
torpedoes, damaging several craft including the Wraith herself.
Commander Tal was quick to blame this intrusion on Commander Savant,
who turned out not to be the culprit. All in all, the crew of the
Wraith seemed content to rise or fall on their own, not involving
the other teams as much as they could. At first, this strategy
seemed quite profitable and the space around the Wraith was cleared
both by her own weapons and by the other craft nearby.
Lieutenant D'rall and Lieutenant Shar, meanwhile, also seemed
content to allow their Hornet to drift behind the leaders, which
turned out to be quite a smart move. The bloodbath closer to the
lead continued, with the Wraith catching and then falling to the
Ryla Razorfang that was the race's long time leader. This put
Commander Tal's craft out of the race, much to her annoyance. The
Razorfang soon fell to the overpowered Whipsnake, which took the
lead... only to shut down her stealth systems and reveal herself as
a disguised Xurian craft! The Ryla race coordinators were quick to
point out that this ship was not subverted by the tar na zee and was
in fact a legal contestant in the race. Many of Coro's crew were
not so sure...
Several other ships were destroyed in quick succession, including
Vanguard's Banshee and another Ryla team, soon leaving only the
Xurian fighter, Savant's Spectre, and the "pilot Hornet" as the only
contenders. Savant and the two Lieutenants joined forces to take on
the Xurian craft, but when Savant slowed to refuel from a freighter
the two ships passed, the Xur craft fell back and struck. The
Hornet and Xurian ship traded blows at close range, Coro's
lightning-quick shuttle dodging serious damage and the Xur craft's
strong shields preventing serious harm. The stalemate was broken
when Lieutenant D'rall ordered everything the Hornet had fired at
once, dropping its own stealth systems. This allowed the Xur
fighter to lock on and finish the Hornet off, though not before the
Xur fighter was also destroyed by the withering return fire...
...leaving Commander Savant as both the sole surviving contestant
and the race's winner!
