Notes from the Admiral:
Sorry for the extreme lateness of this report. Only when I got home
for the weekend did I remember that I ran the sim from Seattle,
Washington, this week on my work laptop. And my work laptop was 20
miles away, heh... As a result, I kind of had to patchwork together
the bits and pieces of this report from all over, so I apologize for
any errors.
The race is going well, though! As I said during the actual sim,
much slower than I expected, but certainly exciting! I can also see
how much people are into it by the annoyance the Wraith team's final
gambit of the sim caused. ::snickers:: What can I say, except keep
your eye on the prize. As I mention in the summary below, it's
pretty clear that's where the Wraith team's eye is fixed. ;)

Sim Title: "Tradition of Losing", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Rear Admiral Lora Kor visits the surface of the Ryla homeworld and
there discovers any number of wonders. In particular, the Ryla seem
to have an interesting mix of advanced technology, primitive
technology, and "technology" that seems little different from magic
or superstition. Among the latter is a fruit the Admiral buys that
changes the eye color of the person consuming it. However, the
"highlight" of the Admiral's trip is when he decides to have his
fortune read... and learns that his fate is dark and terrible.
During the Sim:
---------------
The race continued this week, with each of the five Coronado teams
showing not only a competitive spirit, but a keen desire to win...
in some cases, win no matter which other teams might get in the way.
In the interim, the immediate goal was to reach Marker 5, because at
that point, "weapons free" as the Admiral might say became the rule
of the day. Until Marker 5, ships weren't allowed to attack each
other. A Coronado team was not the first to reach this marker,
however: a small Ryla Razorfang fighter easily reached the Marker
first, and fired a torpedo back and a group of several competitors
as she did so. Before this happened, however...
Aboard the Hornet with Lieutenants D'rall and Shar, things were very
relaxed... almost casual. Though the Hornet is far behind the
leaders, the two Lieutenants didn't appear to be worried, and were
quite content to let the other teams enter battle as they passed
Marker 5. One of the last ships to reach this critical Marker, the
team appears to have a strategy to get by the pack... once the pack
has thinned out a little. Clearly this team feels that slow and
steady will win the race.
Things were much more intense aboard the Wraith team, where
Commander Ma'Aru lived up to her intelligence roots, keeping this
ship firmly apprised of the locations and tactics of the other
teams, Coronado, Ryla, and Vanguard alike. It was clear that this
data was of critical importance, allowing the Wraith to avoid major
conflicts and even destroying a... "competitor" along the way once
Marker 5 was passed. The Wraith team clearly had their eye on the
prize...
Not quite so for the team aboard Kelaka, who had their eye firmly on
the leading Razorfang... to what turned out to be their detriment.
Commander Drexler and General Ironside were the clear leaders of
this team, and were convinced that they could disable the lead
Razorfang from afar using Kelaka's computers. This plan was not to
be, however: they were a key target for the lead Razorfang as she
passed Marker 5. Damaged by the Razorfang's missile, the Kelaka
team was unprepared when they were finished off... by the team
aboard the Wraith! Needless to say, these two teams are likely to
have words when the race is over...
Meanwhile, Captain Daren's Minerva followed a middle course, content
to stay in the pack and try to avoid major conflicts, while
cooperating their efforts with other Coronado teams. This "neither
hot nor cold" policy, however, only served to endanger them when the
Wraith's attack caught the Minerva in the backlash. The Captain and
Major Prescot are now reconsidering their choice of ships...
However, with only a small portion of the course completed, it's
still anybody's race... anybody but Kelaka's, of course, due to the
gig's unfortunate destruction. The field is likely to thin even
further, and very quickly, as the race reaches its conclusion...
