Notes from the Admiral:
Nice work this week, everyone! The summary is once again a bit
longer than normal, reflecting how active everyone was and how much
was going on. ;)
The next few weeks are one of my traditional season-ending
"experimental" sims, but it will also leave us with some time to tie
up some of the threads left loose by this one...

Sim Title: "Reunion Day", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Rear Admiral Marshall visits the Penthia system, and while there,
gets his first good look at the "Penthia Shipyards" there. Built
entirely around mobile repair facilities and their support ships,
the Shipyards have become a surprisingly busy facility, as well as
one of the new key Defender colony systems.
During the Sim:
---------------
Not everyone aboard was concerned about the delicate negotiations
taking place between Captain Daren and the leaders of the Ryla
fleet. In Sickbay, Doctors Reed and Dyson did what they could to
work out their dispute, alternating between intelligent discourse
and bickering. Both were united in the belief that Coronado spends
far too much time at alert status. This is an impression that was
shared by the Engineering crew, who have only just finished putting
Coronado back into trim after several recent incidents, only to find
the frigate thrust back into harm's way.
The negotiations didn't exactly go off without a hitch. Although
they started cordially enough, the Ryla made a surprising move when
they finally agreed to negotiations: they transported much of the
Bridge crew off the frigate. This turned out to be Captain Daren
himself and anyone standing within about four meters of him --
Commanders Tal and Tlaloco, and Lieutenant D'rall, and Lieutenant
Thirishar ch'Thane, newly installed at Tactical. This left Coro
without an effective Bridge staff and obligated Commanders Reed and
Oswald to head to the Bridge, as the senior officers still aboard.
The Bridge crew was transported to a Ryla carrier, where one of the
apparent leaders of the Ryla, Annas, delved into the relationship
between the ship's personnel and the "Sharro." Captain Daren
explained the relationship as best he could, and after touching him,
Annas announced that he lacked the "touch" the Sharro possess.
Annas didn't explain what this might mean, but found it very
significant, and left the group to its own devices while she carried
this information back to those "of the faith."
Meanwhile, aboard Coronado, Savant continued her analysis of the
Ryla language, delving in particular into why the translators
refused to do anything with it at first. She finally found that the
Ryla language has its roots in Apori antecedents, resulting in many
similarities between the two languages, though the Ryla language is
a great deal simpler now. There wasn't much time to debate this
before the star system Coronado was in came under a second attack by
the Xur. Four of the Xur "starfish" entered the system and attacked
anything in the system indiscriminately, including Coronado and the
newly-arrived Cerberus.
Though this attack was swiftly repulsed by a combined assault of the
Defender starships and the Ryla fighters, it was not without
incident. Both Coronado and Cerberus were struck by some sort of
electrical weapon which either punched through the shields or
bypassed them entirely. Both ships then lost crew members to the
same silver-white neural threading that destroyed the crews of both
Chimaera and Cerberus during their trip to Xanadu. The program in
this threading was sufficient to rewrite portions of both ship's
computers, very briefly subverting Cerberus before Commander Farley
got the ship back under the crew's control. A very similar
phenomenon was noted on Coronado until Savant isolated the affected
crew's consoles from the systems in the rest of the ship.
The battle did produce one positive effect, however. During the
battle, the Coronado Bridge crew were isolated aboard the carrier
and left to their own devices. However, once it was over and Annas
was shown that the Defender ships would ally with hers, she agreed
to further contact with us. This was of little comfort to Commander
Oswald aboard Coronado, whose hesitation in command of Coro's Bridge
nearly resulted in Coro taking significant damage from the Xur
weapons. Before the battle was over, Admiral Lora Kor took command
of Coro briefly himself to get the frigate out of danger and sent
Oswald fleeing from the Bridge with some harsh words...
