Notes from the Admiral:
The synopsis is particularly long this week, mostly because I'm sure
everyone was concentrating on their own little piece of the
inspection and ignoring all of the others. As a result, I've tried
to be a lot more detailed about what went on. Feel free to read
only what your character wasn't involved in and skip the rest. ;)
See you all next week! :)
Sim Title: "Spindle", Part 1
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Admiral Tebrun Lora Kor orders a full inspection of U.S.S. Coronado
before she can leave the Xanadu facility... and informs Captain
Daren of this fact.
During the Sim:
---------------
Before the inspection of Coronado begins, the Admiralty staff
gathered in the Command Information Center to discuss strategy and
confirm who was going to go where. The Admiral reserved Engineering
for himself, giving Commander Ma'Aru the Tactical department,
Commander Savant Medical and Science, and Commander Drexler,
Command and Operations. General Ironside was to review Coro's
Marines in a parallel process. After a quick exchange of
pleasantries, the five officers scatter to their respective areas of
responsibility. Lora Kor, in particular, seemed to be in a good
mood, and revealed that for the first time in weeks, he didn't have
his recurring headache.
Commander Savant headed for Sickbay and headed right into an
interview with Doctors Reed and Dyson. Savant started by asking
Reed if he was happy with the operation of his department, and a few
minor quibbles aside -- he noted that the Bridge does not send him
all the information he would like -- he said that he was. Savant
noted that the department seemed to be running smoothly in and of
itself, but digging a bit deeper, noted that there was a bit of
unprofessionalism in Doctor Reed's treatment of his assistant
medical officer. Doctor Reed conceded the point. Savant then
asked Reed what his opinion of Coro's command staff was. Reed
pointed out that the Admiralty staff seems to be going out of their
way to look at Captain Daren's missteps rather than his successes...
Ironside's inspection of the Marines under Major Prescot's command
went off in a similar fashion. The General noted sardonically that
despite the fact that Coro has been in Xanadu for several weeks,
Prescot has not used the opportunity to drill his troops in the
varied terrain of the asteroid-starship's Second Chamber. Though
privately, the General has noted that he has been impressed with
Prescot, he was quite demanding to Prescot himself, reading him the
riot act on any number of levels. That was nothing compared to the
lashing the General gave Colonel Wayne when it came time to inspect
Wayne's Wraith squadron. In particular, Ironside focused on Wayne's
"exploration" of the Catapult control chamber and the results of
that exploration...
Compared to the others, Commander Ma'Aru's inspection of Tactical
was surprisingly low-key. After noting the obvious problems with
Marcy's handling of the recent first contact mission on Micropolis,
she got down to the real business of interviewing the Commander on
Coro's overall Tactical and Security readiness. Here, she
encountered no problems -- Coronado's continued survival points to
diligent Tactical and Security procedures -- but she did ask
Commander Marcy to compare Coro's recent performance with that of
other ships in the fleet. Further, she asked the Commander how she
felt the Captain was utilizing the department. However, all in
all, it was a short inspection for this department.
By contrast, Commander Drexler was very nearly contemptuous of
Captain Daren's work aboard Coronado. In particular, he conducted
his interview with the Captain in public, on Coro's Bridge, forcing
Daren to defend himself quite forcefully. This, the Captain tried
to do, but with Drexler picking apart nearly every word he said, it
certainly wasn't easy... After asking Commander Tlaloco a couple of
questions, he then turned his attention to Lieutenant D'rall.
Drexler then turned his attention back to Captain Daren, this time
in private. However, the Commander didn't have very much time to
speak to the Captain...
Rear Admiral Lora Kor began his inspection of Coronado's engineering
spaces by taking Commanders Oswald and Farley down into the bowels
of the ship, intent on examining the very place where Coroando was
so badly damaged in her confrontation with the Traxati. There, he
found the repairs competently completed, but found the space below
decks was no fit place for humans. He then moved then inspection
back into Engineering proper, where he conducted an interview with
both Commanders, asking them where they felt engineering operations
could be improved. Oswald showed her barely-disguised need to
"expand her empire" by suggesting that some of the crew of the other
departments be cross-trained in engineering operations. Lora Kor
then asked for a demonstration of the newly repaired warp core.
This, however, ended in disaster -- a routine attempt to create a
static warp field created an uncontrolled warp reaction... the
result of which was to apparently flash-fry the Admiral where he
stood!
