Notes from the Admiral:
VERY nice sim, everyone! :) I keep claiming I'm going to try to
cut down the length of the sim summaries, but you guys make that
completely impossible. There was far too much going on, nearly all
of it important to the long-term story line that I essentially ended
up copying this entire sim transcript into the summary.
::chuckles:: I then tried to cut it down and was partially
successful, but it's still pretty damned long. ;)
You're definitely making up for lost time. ;) Keep it up!
Anybody else notice we had 12 observers last week? Sheesh!

Sim Title: "Crowded House", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Dr. Patricia Luisa Lopez learns the secret of Xanadu's Fourth
Chamber: it appears to go on forever. In learning this, she learns
something even more disturbing: in "most" of the Fourth Chamber,
normal physics appears to be meaningless, and in parts of the Fourth
Chamber... time itself appears to be meaningless!
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado's crew finally realized they had an amazing artifact at
their disposal: the millenia-old city of Alexandria that lies at the
center of the asteroid-starship Xanadu. Many of the crew took the
opportunity to leave the docked Coronado, and proceeded to the
"surface" of the Second Chamber to begin exploring this rather large
Jjaro artifact. Those few that remained aboard Coro were dealing
with a somewhat more prosaic but still interesting mystery. Rear
Admiral Lora Kor has always been an insomniac, but now he was an
insomniac with a ship. Sometime very early in the ship's morning,
he left Coronado aboard the Admiral's Gig Kelaka, not giving any
indication of his destination or the purpose of his trip.
Meanwhile, within Alexandria, teams fanned out trying to learn some
of the mysteries that surround the ancient city. Lieutenants
ch'Thane and D'rall entered one of the enormous housing facilities
to find it surprisingly similar to a large apartment building on any
Federation colony planet. The major difference is that other than
the main structural bracing walls, every internal wall and feature
appeared to be holographic. Entering one apartment, they found this
system on the verge of failure: the furniture, decorations, and even
the internal walls seemed to flicker in and out. There was mute
evidence that this building had been invaded at some point in the
distant past; suits of the combat armor we have discovered elsewhere
were present, as were the ancient skeletons of those that weren't
protected... including children that lived in the building.
General Ironside took a group to the projectors of the enormous
cylindrical "dome" that surrounds the city to try to learn more
about it, and possibly the attack that was a key point in
Alexandria's history. There, Ironside's team made a startling
discovery: the dome is in fact false matter and therefore reliant on
the mathematics of the shape programmed into the system... and the
enormous gaping holes in the dome were part of the math. That
raised some very interesting philosophical questions about how or
why the math in the projectors was altered. This team further
discovered that the Jjaro math governing false matter is very
different from ours: the structure of the Jjaro false matter is more
"solid" than ours, not only blocking matter but apparently blocking
specific types and forms of energy as well. Ironside downloaded
these equations for testing on Coro's false matter shielding system.
The General also summoned Alicia to try to get some answers, and
ended up having a very frustrating conversation with her. Alicia
was either unable or unwilling to say how the false matter dome's
mathematics had been altered, but did at least specify the who:
something or someone called the "Jarts." She further specified that
it was the Jarts that attacked Alexandria in the distant past, but
could or would not specify why. She was able to say that the Jarts
are "without form" and that even the name "Jart" is the name given
to this species by others, not their own name for themselves. A
picture began to emerge of a panicky, disorganized flight from
Alexandria as the Jjaro attempted to evacuate their citizens in the
face of this attack. The skeletons and destroyed combat armor
testified that this evacuation was not without heavy losses, as did
the very damage to the dome itself.
General Ironside was not the only person engaged in a frustrating
conversation with Alicia. Commander Tal also attempted to get some
answers from Alexandria's avatar, and though she also learned some
things, she also came upon several strange "blocks" in Alicia's
memory -- things about which Alicia was apparently being prevented
from speaking of. Frustratingly, this included the nature of the
Fourth Chamber and to where Alexandria was evacuated. Assuming at
least some of the Jjaro did survive the attack, we have no way of
knowing where they went. However, Tal did discover the existence of
something called "City Memory," which apparently contains the
memories of some of the citizens of Alexandria from the ancient
past... and at least one new set of memories added to City Memory
only days before...
The explorations, however, were cut short when Colonel Masters,
while exploring the "crystal spire" control room, apparently nearly
set off another Catapult activation. This partial activation could
be felt throughout Xanadu, and drew a furious response from Rear
Admiral Dev Wallace. The Admiral quickly demanded that everyone not
on "his team" evacuate Xanadu immediately...
