Sim Title: "Crowded House", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Lt. Commander Jim Owens picks up Dr. Patricia Luisa Lopez, who has
recently emigrated from the Milky Way to M64. Dr. Lopez is a
theoretical physicist, who is surprised to learn that she is needed
in Xanadu, though she is not initially told why. Owens gets Lopez
on her way to Xanadu aboard Reor'sa's first slipstream packet, Arrow.
During the Sim:
---------------
Xanadu prepared for its "Beckmann translation" and those aboard
Coronado and otherwise inside the asteroid-starship braced
themselves for whatever this might mean. Meanwhile, those outside,
including the Task Group staff aboard Kelaka, either rushed to get
within Xanadu's hull or elected to remain outside the facility for
the translation. Among the latter was Kelaka herself; Rear Admiral
Lora Kor made it clear that he wasn't leaving the system without
first rescuing the escape pods ejected from Panache before her
destruction. Coro's Wraith squadron, however, did make it back into
Xanadu in time, as did the majority of other Defender craft in the
region. U.S.S. Vanguard remained behind as well to ferry those
ships that couldn't make it inside in time.
For those that did make it, the translation wasn't very much fun.
Those that could watch the singularities during the transit reported
that either the singularities moved, or Xanadu moved "along them,"
like a bead on a string. However, those reports only came
afterwards. During the translation, those aboard felt as if they
had pins and needles across every part of their bodies; some
reported feeling "stretched," as if their skin had become very thin.
The experience wasn't pleasant for anyone aboard, but some took it
even more badly -- Sickbay was soon full of people whom the
translation either knocked out or unbalanced. In addition, every
Reorsan Braid aboard Coronado "went to pieces," breaking into their
component cords, as they do when they encounter something extremely
surprising or frightening.
When the transition was over, Xanadu reemerged near the J043 system,
coincidentally the same system that Coronado was to rendezvous with
M.R.F. Onyx in. At first, many aboard worried that there might be
another spatial distortion here, but relaxed when it turned out that
there was no evidence of this. It was the closest system to our
previous location, so perhaps that had something to do with why
Xanadu reemerged there. In any case, it didn't take very long for
Kelaka and Vanguard to finish their work, and rejoin Coronado, Onyx,
and Xanadu in J043. During this trip, Commander Tal shared what she
could about what she believes Rear Admiral Wallace's motives might
be. In particular, she guessed that whatever is in the Fourth
Chamber must be a source of tremendous power, power that Wallace may
feel that it is his duty to protect.
Doctor Reed managed to bring around most of those rendered
unconscious, though some of the more serious cases took some doing.
He was unable to do anything for the Braids at all. Meanwhile, more
badly-shaken people made themselves known, including one deranged
Ensign that entered the Bridge, sought out Captain Daren, and
demanded a transfer. When he was confronted, this Ensign ranted for
a bit longer and then became catatonic...
Once Xanadu had settled in, more traffic arrived from Reor'sa, in
the form of a small but fast transport ship. Though we didn't know
it, this was Dr. Patricia Luisa Lopez aboard Arrow. The ship
transmitted this name and a valid Reorsan fleet identifier, and
little else. In particular, Arrow didn't respond to hails, nor to
efforts to slow the ship down; she deftly avoided a tractor attempt
from Coro. She passed through the Second Chamber and into the
Third, the portal at the zero-G hub opening at the packet's
approach. Unfortunately, Coro's Wraiths were unable to follow; the
portal closed behind the new arrival.
