Notes from the Admiral:
Those of you who wish Coronado had a set of cheat codes probably
didn't care much for this week's sim. You know I have to throw one
of these puzzle sims at you from time to time... ;)
Welcome back to LewisSharp, aka Lt. Aramis Skylooker, who returns
to us after what was possibly the shortest leave of absense in Coro
history. ;)
See you next week! :)
Sim Title: "The Thousand Ships", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
A "flashback" to the future, in which Captain Walker Kile directs
the mass exodus of the "Thousand Ships" through a Traxati hypergate,
circa 2486. This exodus, prompted by a final and successful Borg
invasion of Federation space, is something that Coronado once
witnessed, though not in full. Through the flashback, we get some
idea of what actually happened, including how Xanadu came (comes
to?) arrive in M64...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado completed her approach to the Enigma system. Our goal
here: to start a dialogue with the Traxati world-life and try to
learn whether this hypergate has been used by humanoids before.
This is is something that the world-life didn't tell us the last
time that we were here, but the Traxati have such a long sense of
time that the world-life might simply have not thought such
information important to us. Of course, now that we suspect that
the Jjaro may actually be humanoids from the Milky Way who came to
M64 in the far distant past, that information is now of vital
importance.
As a result, Rear Admiral Lora Kor had a message prepared for the
world-life in advance, and directed Captain Daren to perform some
very specific tasks prior to our approach. Included in these tasks
was the deployment of "Muse," a Traxati weapon-probe modification
that was given to us by the Traxati as a sort of recognition signal.
The Admiral was also firm that he intended to beam down to the
surface to "speak" to the Traxati directly, feeling that space-
bourne communications with the lifeform would be "rude." As a
result, a fair number of people signalled their intent to join the
Admiral on the surface.
These preparations turned out to be for naught, or at the very least
premature. On our approach to the Enigma planet and our launch of
Muse, several dozen weapon-probes were launched from the surface.
These probes destroyed Muse, then did their level best to do the
same to Coronado! It was as if we'd never encountered the Traxati
before at all, something that those aboard were certainly not
expecting. Even worse, there was evidence of a Pfhor warship
derelict, possibly crash-landed, on the surface of the world-life.
While this wouldn't be an issue on an actual planet, we know for a
fact that the Traxati ferociously defend the surfaces of their
worlds from meteor strikes and other phenomenon -- this is why the
weapon-probes were developed, after all.
Faced with Traxati that are again hostile, Coro had little choice
but to run to the extreme far edge of the system and consider our
options. The Admiral still believes it is critical to get a message
to the Traxati and as a result, tasked both his own team and the
Coronado officers with finding a way to get a message to the
surface. The Admiralty staff discussed and rejected several
options, including simply risking a direct Traxati assault in
Coronado. Our false matter shields were shown to be impervious to
the neutronium needles fired by the Traxati. However, the Admiral
pointed out that was when Coro was running; were we to remain even
marginally stationary, the probes would surround and overwhelm the
shields. We do not have the power to generate an all-around false
matter shield defense.
The Coronado team, meanwhile, decided that the easiest method for
getting a message to the surface would be to mount holographic
emitters into a probe fitted with false amtter shields and then fire
it into the vicinity of Enigma. This form of communications
obviously runs the risk of being mistaken for a meteor or simply an
attack, however. In the meantime, as plans were worked out, two
mysteries remain. First, why have the Traxati suddenly become
hostile? After all, they fought with us at the Defense of Xanadu.
Second, how did a Pfhor warship come to crash on the surface of the
world-life, and when?

Exchange of the Week, OOC Edition:
Jester is forced to explain one of the cardinal rules of Trek.
<CPCO_Daren> Is it me or are people in the CIC working to get this
done before the people discussing the problem in the CR get to do
anything? What is this, beat the clock? :)
<BGDC_Ironside> ::grins::
<RAGC_LoraKor> This is Star Trek. There shall be multiple possible
plans. The first one tried, whichever one that is, will only make
things worse.
<RAGC_LoraKor> Thereby requiring the plan we were "keeping in
reserve." ;)
<LJHL_D`rall> hehe
<BGDC_Ironside> LOL
Exchange of the Week, /msg Edition:
McC begging Jester to take a certain c/p out of the transcript.
