It turned out to be a VERY busy afternoon.

Tebrun Lora Kor intended to spend that afternoon as he had spent the last
ten -- helping the rest of the Admiralty go over the reports from two
dozen systems surveyed by various classes of Defender vessels. Once the
reviews were done, there were a hundred decisions that needed to be made
about where to expand, what to try to inspect, what required a closer
look. Instead of all that, he found himself in a series of impromptu
 meetings.

Lora Kor at least had the benefit of taking the meetings in the Flag
office aboard Coronado, which meant that nobody could just barge in on
 the Admiral.

Or so he thought. As it turned out, he had two unexpected visitors.

The first was Doctor Alec Reed, Coronado's CMO. However, that proved to
be what was easily the simpler of the two unexpected visits to deal with.

"Doctor," Lora Kor said with what he hoped was sufficient patience, "I
realize that you sent me that report; however, I don't see how you can
object with my sharing that information with my intelligence officer."

"Admiral," the doctor said, leaning over Lora Kor's desk, "that report
had patient information in it. I hesitated over sending confidential
 patient information to command personnel--"

The Admiral waved one hand, cutting Reed off. "Doctor," he said, even
more patiently, "that report, whether you realize it or not, contained
tactical information in it regarding a potential threat. Perhaps you
hadn't noticed, but I am an Admiral. Do you honestly expect me to act on
such information without the input of my trusted officers?" he asked,
 leaning forward toward the doctor.

Commander Savant took that moment to appear in the Flag office. She
smiled beningly as she materialized. "Admiral, I was told you wanted to
see me at 1400?" she asked, then nodded at Reed, who relaxed enough to
nod back. If she noted the tableau before her -- Reed and Lora Kor faced
off across the desk... and it would have been difficult to miss -- she
 did not mention it.

Lora Kor turned to Savant and nodded, "Yes, Commander, just one moment,"
he said, then turned his attention back to Reed.

Reed seemed to deflate, then nodded. "I suppose not," he allowed
finally. "I'm sorry, Admiral. I shouldn't have--" The doctor nodded,
then straightened up, pulling his uniform jacket down as he did so and
glancing at Savant. "I apologize for disturbing you," he said.

Lora Kor also straightened up. "Thank you for your time, Doctor, and for
the information," he said. Reed nodded, turned, and left. The Admiral
turned his attention to Savant, then smiled a little enigmatically.

"Commander, I have received an interesting request from Stuart Morgan, on
Renegade," he said, indicating Savant should sit... or at least appear
to. "As I believe you are aware, Renegade's command interface,
Scherezade, was destroyed by the S'pht in the closing days of the war,"
 he said.

Savant nodded grimly. Unable to bend Scherezade to their will, the S'pht
had corrupted the interface beyond repair or redemption.

"As a result," Lora Kor said, standing and heading for the replicator,
"Captain Morgan has reminded me that there is an open computer core on
Renegade, and sufficient holographic interpolation matrices to..." Lora
Kor tapped an order into the replicator, then turned back to Savant with
that mysterious smile. "There are sufficient matrices to construct a new
 intelligence there," he said.

Savant actually blinked. "You mean... reproduce?" she asked.

Lora Kor nodded. "If you care to think of it that way, Commander," he
said, withdrawing a old-fashioned silver-worked tea glass from the
replicator and taking a sip. Looking closer, Savant could see the teacup
was the reproduction of an antique -- a half-liter cylindrical glass with
a silver-worked frame and handle, perhaps of old Russian design on Earth.
Lora Kor nearly added another comment, but was interrupted by his second
 unexpected visitor of the afternoon.

He appeared from the cabin's far wall, like a hologram could, but Lora
Kor could tell immediately that he was not a hologram. The visitor also
had a physical presence; he -- the visitor was male -- displaced air and
there was a faint smell in the air associated with his appearance that
the Admiral couldn't immediately identify... maybe ozone. The man was
tall, thin, lanky, and had a fine mess of blonde hair that was just
barely under control. He was also obviously a joined Trill, perhaps 20
 years older than Lora Kor.

The Admiral turned to the new visitor... the reproduction antique tea
glass dropped from his hand and shattered on the Flag office deck.

"Captain Kile?" he breathed. "This is impossible!"
