Notes from the Admiral:
Not very much that I can add to this one. Sorry this report is a
bit late, but I've been having e-mail troubles early in the week,
followed by any number of distractions later in the week. ;)
Everyone did a great job with the actual sim, though!
Ensign Senik has tendered his resignation from Coronado, and I have
accepted it. If you see him, please wish him luck wherever his
simming journeys take him. :)
In a similar vein, Phishie, aka 1Lt. Natalia Petrovna, has requested
a leave of absence for six weeks. I have promised not to tease her
about this, but I don't remember any of you making that promise, so
feel free to tease her mercilessly about it. ::snickers::
And before you ask, NO, I definitely will not tell you about the
application that makes up this week's exchange of the week. You'll
just have to find someone else who was there...

Sim Title: "Under Construction", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
"Under Construction" doesn't only apply to Reorsan buildings and
fighters on Micropolis, apparently. Reorsan Starship Destiny is
launched from a secret location by Mobile Repair Facility Onyx,
having completed that starship's primary construction. Her crew
takes Destiny out on what is likely to be the first of several
shakedown and pre-commissioning cruises. Meanwhile, Vice Admiral
Aldur contemplates a large force of Camelynian ships, including
transports and colony ships, as they come through the Traxati
hypergate from the Milky Way. Though of course allies, the
Camelynians are now the most populous group of humanoids in M64...
During the Sim:
---------------
The disastrous first contact on the surface continued. Ironically,
there seemed to be several on the contact team that would have
happily traded places with those on the ship. Commander Marcy was
likely one of them, the situation Captain Daren found himself in
more or less of the Tactical Officer's creation. The Captain did
what he could to placate the "white wolf," apparently the leader of
the group confronting the contact team. The white wolf, meanwhile,
seemed to lose interest in Daren and approached the shuttle. Once
aboard, the white wolf seemed primarily interested in Commander
Oswald; Commander Reed attempted to intervene, only to apparently be
chastised. A hypospray the doctor was holding was roughly wrenched
out of his hand by an unseen force and was soon orbiting the white
wolf's head.
Meanwhile, just as ironic, several of those aboard Coronado would
have happily traded places with those on the contact team. Two of
those was were Commander Smith and Major Prescot, frustrated at
their inability to do very much to help the team. The Admiralty
staff, meanwhile, debated whether it was possible to counter what
was apparently quite strong telekinesis and empathy in the
Micropolis natives. Any time any member of the team -- such as Reed
-- even contemplated an attack on the canines, he or she was thrown
to the ground, chastised physically, or both. There seemed to be no
way to hide hostile intent from them. Marcy, in particular, had to
be chastised quite forcefully several times before he got the
message. Commander Smith, completely frustrated, realized that a
stronger telepath than was on the surface might be needed, and
ordered Commander Tlaloco removed from stasis.
The one person at least partially telepathic on the surface,
however, was Commander Oswald. Probably one of the last people on
board that anyone would have expected to handle a diplomatic
situation, the wolves seemed fascinated by her. The white wolf, in
particular, beckoned the Commander out of the shuttle and in the
direction of the replica of the Fisher's Landing spaceport
Administration building. Oswald followed, with Savant's holographic
representation ghosting along beside her. Nobody else, however, was
allowed to approach -- two wolves remained to guard over those who
tried. Commander Oswald was led into the Administration building.
Though from the outside, the building appears identical to one 22
light-years away on Reor'sa, the interior was quite different,
resembling nothing so much as part wolf's den, part community hall.
A gaggle of puppies and several new adults approached Oswald.
Commander Oswald was eventually led out of the Administration
building, having learned several key facts from the canines: first,
that they are both aware of the Pfhor and consider the Hegemony
their enemy. Second, that they apparently know about Reor'sa from
Craig Serrold, a member of Coronado's crew from the ship's previous
mission here. Third, they obviously don't quite know what to make
of their humanoid visitors; it's clear enough that they don't
understand us and don't trust us. This impression was not helped by
Commander Tlaloco, who was eventually removed from stasis and beamed
to the surface. Somehow, Tlaloco managed to say exactly the wrong
things, one after another. The Micropolis natives soon made it
quite clear that they had absolutely no respect for him, something
that caused the Commander a great deal of anguish. The canines
insisted, through Oswald, that he be returned to the ship.
Those on the surface therefore found themselves in a somewhat
awkward position: Oswald was the only person who could effectively
communicate with the natives, leaving the rest of the away team in
their power. Oswald attempted to introduce Captain Daren as her
superior officer, something that the canines rejected out of hand.
However, as Oswald wasn't trained as a diplomat, there was not very
much more headway that she could make with the canines. We seem to
lack the proper frame of reference with which to communicate with
this species. The group around Oswald eventually broke up, and they
allowed Captain Daren and his team to reboard Teresa and return to
Coronado. This mission continues to be a failure.
