Notes from the Admiral:
No telling when this sim report will go out, as my webhosting/
e-mail provider appears to be down at the moment (possibly due to
the effects of an Internet worm overnight). However, in any case,
this week was a nice wrap-up to three weeks of character-based
simming. The logs, in particular, have been outstanding and very
enjoyable reading. Well done, everyone! :)

Sim Title: "Marching Orders", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Captain Daren receives Coronado's marching orders: the ship is to
investigate the situation in the Micropolis system, almost certainly
overrun by the Pfhor Hegemony during the war. While we did our best
last year to essentially prejudice the Micropolis natives against
the Pfhor, they might have accepted or even embraced Hegemony
philosophy in the interim...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado continued to orbit Reor'sa, even as other ships that
survived the war moved out to investigate surrounding space. Coro
had received her marching orders from Admiral Lora Kor that morning,
but those orders specified a departure for the following morning.
As a result, the crew had some time to wrap up a last few items in
orbit. The Admiral himself was preoccupied with the opening of the
rift to Earth, as were several others. However, General Ironside
interrupted his reverie long enough to inquire cryptically about
"the events of Stardate 239911." Lora Kor confirmed that he hadn't
forgotten about those events but that there wasn't very much that he
could do about them. He did confirm that one of the briefings in
the Admiralty notes being sent back to the Milky Way pointed out
this "danger," whatever it is. Lora Kor then confided to Ironside
that he'd also divulged this information to his one-time partner in
Whitestone Enterprises. Whatever this danger is, the Admiral seemed
fairly confident that either Starfleet or his civilian contacts
would take care of it.
Meanwhile, Commander Tlaloco and his son were on several people's
minds, including Commander Savant and Captain Daren. The latter
called Commander Oswald up to his Ready Room to discuss the child,
whose abilities spring from a partially S'pht heritage. The Captain
asked Oswald if she believed she could keep the child under control
with her own mental disciplines. Oswald claimed it would be
relatively simple, since a four-month-old baby has little will of
its own. Doctor Reed, working on his analysis of the child's DNA,
pointed out that the boy is essentially, half-human, half-
computer... Captain Daren seemed somewhat placated by Oswald's
response, but indicated that he would have to consider the problem
further before the ship left for Micropolis on her next mission.
Commander Smith, in particular, relented in at least one respect: he
told Oswald that he will be reinstating her former rank of full
Commander and reluctantly admitted that she might very well have
been right about the dangers of bringing Commander Tlaloco and his
son out of stasis. Oswald had a brief but satisfying "I told you
so" moment before teasingly informing the XO that should he question
her judgement again, he might find that he personally has
difficulties with ship's systems in general, items in his quarters
in particular.
In Xanadu, U.S.S. Churchill and one of our Reorsan Defiant escorts,
working together, opened the 18cm rift to Earth and deployed the
communications relay that would allow us to transmit our data on
Galaxy M64 to date. Once the relay was deployed and it was
confirmed that it had started transmitting, Vice Admiral Aldur
started to attempt to contact whomever is now Commander, Starfleet
in the Milky Way. This communication was monitored from Coro's CIC.
Aldur eventually broke through the Starfleet bureauacracy, reaching
a Commodore Kahlia Scott. The two exchanged relatively routine
pleasantries, Aldur assuring Scott that the several thousand
gigaquads of data coming through the rift was genuine, and Scott
assuring Aldur that the war in the Milky Way was over (Aldur was
openly skeptical, particularly when Scott turned out to be aboard a
Klingon vessel). Commodore Scott asked if there was anything she
could do to assist us, and in particular, Aldur specified that
personnel and ships, particularly colony ships and transports, would
be most useful. Materials and personnel can still flow from the
Milky Way to M64 through the Traxati hypergate in the Hayashi
system. Scott promised that she would look into it.
While in most cases, it would be several hours before we could
expect any responses, in one case, the response was almost
immediate. Rear Admiral Sandra Nouveau, Commander Oswald's mother,
received her daughter's letter almost immediately. Nouveau used the
two-way link to contact Coronado and Oswald, and the two had a brief
conversation across 19 million light-years. While Nouveau upbraided
her daughter for not nearly sending a long enough letter, Commander
Smith upbraided her for using the critical link home for a personal
call. Meanwhile, Lora Kor asked Commanders Savant and Ma'Aru to use
the link to the Milky Way to download whatever information was
available on the current situation in the home galaxy. Commander
Ma'Aru indicated that she would use the time the link was open to
try to get everyone still living in M64 off Starfleet's "missing,
presumed dead" listings... Lora Kor also indicated that he knew
that the Camelynians have been instructed to send a sizeable
contingent through the Hayashi gate, as Crown Prince Henry Gaveston-
Tudor in M64 feels that the Camelynians have been limited in the
Milky Way, situated as they are between Federation and Romulan
space. They may very well want an empire in M64...
Finally, several aboard had the luxury of not considering or caring
whether the link to the Milky Way was open or not. Majors Prescot
and Thirishar, along with Commander Dyson, considered a possible
problem with the Spectre class fighters. Apparently, many of them
have been suffering from computer problems. It is possible that
these are simply the result of overuse over the last several months,
and Shar indicated that he would be having many of the computer
cores replaced. In the meantime, hopefully, we won't have to rely
on our fighters too heavily in Micropolis to give the men time to
work on the problem. All three suspected a possible virus.
