Excerpt from a summary report on Pfhor Hegemony capabilities
published in June 2400 by the Saevoy Concordat...

However, most of the Pfhor's technology is not of their own
technological design. The Pfhor have reversed engineered technology
of an ancient and long departed race known as the Jjaro. The Jjaro
left the M64 galaxy millions of years ago, and left many outposts
(hidden or visible) on the moons of many habitable worlds.

Although the Pfhor have not fully been able to exploit the advanced
nature of the Jjaro in their reverse engineering process, their
ships are nonetheless powerful and advanced. The most destructive
weapon that the Pfhor have been able to reverse engineer from the
Jjaro is the trih xeem, a weapon that causes stars to go nova. The
Pfhor are, however, very reluctant to use this weapon, and only the
most widespread and dangerous slave uprisings have been quelled by
the use of the trih xeem...

Excerpt from a technical report on a captured trih xeem weapon
published in July 2402 by Lt. Commander James Owens...

The trih xeem weapon format is that of a launched projectile,
approximately 28 meters in length by 11 meters in diameter.
Essentially cylindrical, the interior is exceedingly complex.
However, careful examination has allowed me to deduce that the
weapon is probably based on the principles of subspace inversion.
Such a weapon is only theoretical to our science, though rumors that
a Dr. Tolian Soren was able to develop such a weapon in the Milky
Way approximately 25 years ago cannot be ruled out.

Subspace inversion is a propulsion matrix operating on ZTF (zero
time of flight) principles somewhat similar to wormhole or other
subspace tunneling phenomenon. The object using the technology is
"inverted" into subspace similar to the nesting effect currently
being experimented with for front-line Starfleet capital ships and
heavy fighters. However, instead of using the inversion process for
camouflage, the theory states that it is possible to link the
inverted ship to a distant point in space-time through a subspace
corridor: the so-called DeSitter space. The ship essentially
disappears in one place, reappears in another, where in the "real
world," zero time has passed. Experiments were conducted with this
propulsion technology approximately one century ago. Though those
experiments did not produce a successful inversion drive, there is
still some hope that a future version will do so.

However, much like the matter/antimatter reaction can be used for
both propulsion and destruction, it is theorized that a subspace
inversion matrix could also be used to develop a weapon of
devastating power. More simple in application than the propulsion
matrix, the "weaponized" subspace inversion matrix could be used to
open a corridor in subspace between a physical object and a distant
-- but highly destructive -- region of space. The region would be
chosen for its destructive capabilities depending on the target size
and mass. Opening an inversion corridor to the heart of a
reasonably-sized star would suffice for destroying an object of
planetary mass, for instance. An object of solar mass could be
destroyed by opening an inversion corridor to a black hole or other
 large-scale singularity.

Note well, however: in addition to being highly destructive, such a
use of the weapon would have unpredictable effects on the geometry
nearby-space time. The weapon could appear to be effective before
it had been used, for instance, or could travel in a highly
unpredictable path due to its effects on local gravitational
constants. It is, in short, a highly unpredictable weapon -- no
doubt one of the reasons that the Pfhor are hesitant to use it, if
 reports are to be believed.

It should be possible to destroy the trih xeem projectile at some
point after its launch, but prior to detonation if the weapons
officer aboard a nearby starship or fighter were reasonably alert.
However, it is *not* necessary for the projectile to impact its
target prior to detonation. The research indicates that any region
of nearby vacuum would translate the weapon's effects within an area
of several AUs in diameter. To destroy a star, for instance, one
need only get the weapon within a few million kilometers of the
target star for the weapon to be effective. Defender weapons
officers are therefore advised to destroy any projectile meeting the
target profile of the trih xeem either inside an atmosphere or at
the maximum possible distance from any potential targets. This
should reduce the risk of a successful use of the trih xeem weapon
 by the Pfhor...
