Notes from the Captain:
A hearty welcome back to Alffred, who rejoins us (yes, again
::grins::) as Marine Flight Leader Thirishar ch'Thane, or Shar for
short. Welcome back, Alffred!
While there's a tiny bit of clean-up yet to do (what happens with
Reor'sa, of course ;-) ), that more or less wraps up the Pfhor plot.
I hope all of you have enjoyed it! :-) Again, thanks to Fraser for
pointing me at the source material for the Pfhor. This plot was
conceived about two years ago and was originally going to take place
in the Milky Way, with the Romulans and Klingons playing the "bad
guys," as it were. However, I think moving the sim to M64 and using
an entirely new enemy there worked much better. Certainly more
mysterious (and I think, more intimidating) for the bad guys to be
completely unfamiliar. ;-)
There were (and are) a lot of possibilities at this point. It's
entirely possible, for instance, that we could devise a way to get
Coro back to the Milky Way using the Catapult as a conduit.
However, the longer the sim stays in M64, the more I like it here,
so chances are pretty good that Coro will not be going back to the
Milky Way. So, if you have a problem with that, now would be the
time to tell me. ;-)

Sim Title: "The Tenth Plague", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Admirals Brian Aldur and Charlie Theron approach Xanadu, but are too
late to stop the slaughter of the majority of the Starfleet ships
that made the transit to M64. Both men are overwhelmed by the
destruction, but Aldur vows that the ships won't have fallen in
vain...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado's Marines found themselves hard-pressed by the Pfhor
Birdies, Hunters, and Hounds, despite the assistance of air support.
Apparently desperate, the Pfhor Hegemony's warriors launched
desperate attacks, trying to open a line to the Citadel of
Antiquity. With Ironside inside the Citadel proper, Major Prescot
took command of that part of the battle. The Major, however, was
slowly pressed back, and back, and back toward the Citadel. Above
the Marines, Coronado and the ships with her weren't faring much
better, but were eventually successful in destroying the last few
Pfhor warships near Lh'owon. This earned them what was to be a
brief reprieve.
Meanwhile, the battle in Longshot was also going very badly. Three
Pfhor cruisers managed to enter Xanadu's second chamber despite the
more or less continuous assaults from Alexandria's weapons
emplacements. Outside Xanadu, the Pfhor battleship seemed to be
completely unstoppable -- even Traxati neutronium needles, though
they were damaging the ship, couldn't seem to hit anything critical
enough to stop it. Slowly, ponderously, the ship continued
advancing, destroying or driving off anything in its way. However,
Lt. Colonel Wayne did manage to spot a weak point in the ship's
armor and transmitted that to the ships attacking it, which at least
slowed the behemoth down.
Within the Citadel itself, Ironside, Smith, Savant's android
analogue, and Oswald vanished... to find themselves in a featureless
environment. A voice spoke to them, and through process of
eliminiation, the four decided that this voice must belong to both
the Watchers and the S'pht'kr. Apparently, the S'pht'kr are but one
species making up the Watchers. The four officers attempted various
means to coerce the S'pht'kr element of the Watchers to take more
direct action either against the Pfhor, or to assist the S'pht.
However, the S'pht'kr were apparently completely uninterested in the
problems of mortal beings, and did not seem at all interested in
getting involved in the problems of the S'pht.
A crack appeared in the defensive line around the Citadel, and a
group of Hunters and Hounds also managed to reach the Citadel of
Antiquity, making things even more complicated there. Ironside
attacked one of them as they appeared, but his attack had no effect,
other than to make the S'pht'kr/Watchers more remote. Coronado also
found herself in an even worse situation -- a second Pfhor
battleship and its escorts arrived in Lh'owon space and headed for
the planet. Only the two frigates, both badly damaged, and a single
escort stood between the monster and the planet. However, the
battle in Longshot took a turn for the better when Aldur and
Theron's fleets finally arrived -- apparently made up of resistance
fighters from species throughout the Hegemony. Though many of the
ships were extremely primitive, all of them launched an attack on
the Pfhor battleship.
The four officers in the Citadel finally realized that they had to
remind the S'pht'kr what it was like to be mortal. The easiest way
to do this was to have S'buuth brought to the Citadel. S'buuth
appeared, then vanished soon after. Though exactly what happened at
this point is unclear, all of the Pfhor warships stopped firing at
once, and all of the "Birdies" on the planet surface vanished. The
battle fleet facing Coronado apparently lost control of their
systems, and were destroyed in an uncontrolled dive into a newly-
appeared moon of Lh'owon's. The moon had appeared at the same time
as S'buuth's disappearance, but the appearance of the moon signed
Lh'owon's death warrant.
Coronado, Renegade, and Absalom slipped into the planet's orbit to
recover our ground troops as the planet began to shake itself apart.
For those underground, there was seemingly no escape. There was no
way for the transporter to rescue them from far underground and an
extremely violent earthquake collapsed the tunnel systems. However,
Ironside managed to use his new ability to teleport Smith, Oswald,
and himself free of the chamber. Savant's android, sadly, was
destroyed, but the humanoids on the surface of Lh'owon managed to
get back to Absalom and a badly-damaged Coronado.
