Notes from the Captain:
Excellent work this week, everyone! :) This set of sims is turning
out to be pretty complicated, with action in at least four different
locations, but so far you're all dealing with it in stride. Keep up
the good work!
It turns out, for those who missed it, that rev was in Hungary.

Sim Title: "The Tenth Plague", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Rear Admiral Tebrun Lora Kor reaches the Enigma system and makes a
(somewhat deceitful) deal with the Traxati. He implies in a
holographic communication that the Pfhor are preventing Coronado
from reaching the "red smoke" that the Traxati asked us last year to
remove. In the hologram, Lora Kor indicates that Traxati weapon-
probes could make the difference between Coro reaching the red smoke
or not, and the Traxati agree to enter the battle. Meanwhile, the
Pfhor capitalize on the destruction of Gryphon by riding over her
entire battle group, serioulsy jeopardizing the Defender position on
Xanadu's "south" flank.
During the Sim:
---------------
Dodging Pfhor fire and leading at least one hundred Traxati weapon-
probes, Admiral Lora Kor reached the interior of Xanadu. Once
within, he transported to Churchill, asking Savant to find a safe
place to hide Kelaka until the battle is over. He then took direct
charge of the defense of Xanadu while the Traxati probes attacked
the Pfhor battleship. The latter ship entered the "south"
radiation-free zone and it was swiftly apparent that the 20 kilomter
long ship was going to be nigh-unstoppable. Though many attacks
landed on the massive vessel, they didn't seem to do enough damage
to stop it or even slow it down. Even Traxati neutronium needles
passed through the ship by the dozen without doing major damage.
Meanwhile, Coronado and the Defender ships with her had their own
problems. After destroying the heavy Pfhor starships in the
vicinity, Coronado and the other ships turned to supporting the
Marine and Shadow Knight troops on the surface. In addition, a
small away team attempted to search a specific part of the planet
for the Citadel of Antiquity, believed to give some way of accessing
the planet's missing second moon and the S'pht'kr that live there.
However, this exploration was complicated by the fact that there
were more than 2,000 Hegemony troops on and below the surface. Most
worrisome to the away team were the Hounds, which can both burrow
beneath the surface and detect vibrations underground. As a result,
not only do these troops have a distinct advantage in finding the
Citadel, but they could and did attack the away team when the Hounds
felt the team was getting too close...
Coronado, Renegade, and Avenger, in particular, turned their
attention to orbital bombardment of the Hegemony troops that were on
the surface, while Colonel Ironside directed the ground action. The
fact that the Defender ground troops were outnumbered pushed
Ironside into a somewhat defensive posture, but the Defender troops
operated under a very friendly sky: both the capital ship
bombardment and close support from Defender Spectres and Wraiths
helped turn the tide against the Pfhor troops. However, the Pfhor
battleship, escorted by three cruisers, continues its advance,
reaching the immediate exterior of Xanadu. The battleship uses its
weapons to enlarge the opening and the three cruisers enter the
asteroid despite constant harrassment by Defender ships.
This job was soon complicated by the arrival of two new groups of
Pfhor warships. The Defender capital ships turned their attention
to these and a pitched battle ensued. This fight was seriously
complicated by the fact that the Pfhor have apparently managed to
mass-produce enough computers to equip a large number of ships with
very precise fire control. As a result, their weapons were
devastatingly accurate, easily sufficient to cut false-matter
torpedoes from the sky. In addition, many FM torpedoes were somehow
remotely disabled before impact. As a result, the two frigates and
their escorts had to hurtle suicidally close to the destroyers
before launching their torpedoes. This strategy was eventually
successful enough to repulse the attack, though R.S. Avenger was
destroyed in the process.
As this threat was being dealt with, the Pfhor destroyers launched
troop transports, which made their way to the planet. Though the
capital ships were able to deal with a couple of these, the Marines,
Wraiths, and Spectres were obliged to respond to the remainder to
prevent the Pfhor from reinforcing their troops on the surface.
During this engagement, Major Prescot discovered a sinkhole that led
deep beneath the planet surface with an odd energy signature coming
from it. The away team made this area the focus of their search;
Colonel Ironside and Savant were the first to reach a crystalline
chamber deep underground. While Ironside attempted to decipher the
interface, Savant took the direct approach, and simply linked
herself to the systems present...
