Notes from the Captain:
Continued very nice role-playing from everyone! :) Not much I can
add to this except keep up the good work! We're going, as I
mentioned, into the last few sims of the Pfhor plot...

Sim Title: "S'pht'kr", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Captain Daren briefs Rear Admiral Todd Marshall on his plan to use
the Jjaro Catapult to reach Lh'owon... just as we remember doing in
the alternate universe. In the process, Daren reveals several of
the limitations of the Catapult, notably that an exact location must
be known and it is the use of the Catapult that causes the "ripples"
in the singularity. However, the ripples happen before one uses the
Catapult, instead of after...
During the Sim:
---------------
Commander Drexler, aboard the Pfhor transport recently captured by
Coronado, contacts Rear Admiral Lora Kor to inform him that the ship
is ready for operation. After consulting with Drexler and Ironside,
Lora Kor elects to send the ship to Lh'owon with Coronado, and
orders Ironside to put a regiment aboard in case ground action is
required there. Lora Kor also asks that a second contingent of
Marine ground troops be placed in Alexandria -- while the Catapult
is in operation and the rift is open, that rift will be two-way.
Therefore, anything on the other side will have immediate access to
the interior of Xanadu. Ironside sees the need to defend
Alexandria, but warns that our resources will be stretched thin.
As he is doing this, Lora Kor has a simultaneous conversation with
Commander Ma'Aru as he designs the defense of the Longshot system.
Defending Xanadu is made easier by the fact that there are only two
safe approaches to the asteroid and there are therefore only two
corridors that require defending. However, our recent discovery
that the Pfhor have acquired and begun to use cloaking technology
makes defending those corridors problematic. Lora Kor virtually
guarantees that at least some ships will reach the interior of the
asteroid -- thus, the need for both defensive ships within the
second chamber and the ground troops in Alexandria. The Admiral
orders Ma'Aru to research the Pfhor's cloaking capabilities and try
to devise a defense.
Coronado, meanwhile, relieves one of the Camelynian destroyers on
the patrol line outside of Xanadu. A constantly moving sphere of
ships has been ordered outside the asteroid, partially to give us
some extra warning of the approach of Pfhor ships, partially to
bring Coro's LORASON sensors to bear outside the asteroid... and
partially so that if the Pfhor DO appear, all of our ships are not
trapped within the asteroid. The patrol gives Ensign D'Rall
something to do, especially when the ship detects something unusual
nearby: a great many subspace distortions.
The frigate approaches this odd phenomenon and discovers a very
large number of semi-active Apori rift-gates. These gates have the
typical effect on Coro's warp drive system and anti-matter reaction;
Apori propulsion is completely incompatible with Starfleet
propulsion. Engineering has a difficult time keeping the antimatter
reaction stable until Coro pulls back somewhat. The ship eventually
finds four groups of such rift-gates. Three Apori Will of the One
escort ships soon appear, indicating that all is in readiness.
Apparently the Apori are planning a massive ambush into Xanadu
space. Lora Kor says that it was easy to bring the Will of the One
over to our side now that we're likely to be in a "stand-up fight"
with the Pfhor over Xanadu. Still, the new allies warrant caution.
When asked about all of the elaborate precautions, Lora Kor finally
admits that the Defender Admiralty believes that at least some Pfhor
might have knowledge of the alternate universe as well... and are
using that knowledge to reinforce their garrison at Lh'owon and to
prepare a massive strike on Xanadu itself. Suddenly, our potential
mission is all that much more dangerous. Without the element of
surprise, the Admiral admits the only thing we have going for us is
speed and flexibility, and he is designing the Lh'owon team and the
Xanadu defense fleet heavy on both...
