Notes from the Captain:
Hi all. :) Very short notes this week, as I'm running late on
getting this report out.
An excellent episode, though! Lots of very good character work, and
I especially look forward to seeing how your characters react to
this particular set of events. ;) I've also been quite impressed
with the number and quality of logs lately. Keep it up! :)
See you next week! :)
Sim Title: "Masquerade" ("Articles of Faith", Part 3)
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Commander Isamu briefs Commander Daren on an expanding sphere of
destruction... a ripple in space-time that certainly caused the
recent disappearances, and promises to do even worse. The second
wave of the effect will destroy subspace, rendering warp and
slipstream travel impossible; the third wave will destroy all life.
When Daren asks where the wave came from, Isamu is able to pinpoint
it to a small area in the Milky Way Galaxy... in 2378.
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado approached the Longshot system, in the hopes that the
Captain and crew's memories of the other timeline are accurate, and
in that other timeline, the problem apparently begun aboard the
other timeline's Coronado can be solved by this one. In the
meantime, many aboard continued to recover from abrupt rescues from
dangerous situations. The disappearances of people and ships were
caused by some sort of "displacement wave"; the wave created a
number of dangers. The dangers suffered by Admiral Wallace and
Tebrun Lora Kor were typical: both were stranded in life-threatening
situations when their ships disappeared, Wallace in vacuum in orbit
of Reor, Lora Kor in mid-air above the surface of the planet. Both,
among others, were beamed aboard Coro.
One of the others was Zunite Oswald-Dejat, who wasted no time
heading for Coronado's engineering spaces to offer her "assistance."
Wallace, meanwhile, met with Captain Drexler to attempt to
understand why the Longshot object might be so important. After
attempting to explain his situation to the Admiral, Drexler called a
meeting of Coronado's senior staff to discuss his thoughts.
Surprisingly, Drexler asked that several non-Coronado personnel
including Lora Kor and his associate Dalton be invited to the
meeting; Drexler seemed to feel that their presence would be
important. Once the meeting was called, Drexler explained to the
others what he believed he knew about the "other" timeline...
including his belief that the other timeline might be the "correct"
one.
This view was obviously quite controversial, particularly among
those whose lives followed dramatically different paths in the other
timeline. However, as the meeting progressed and Coro's distance
from Xanadu decreased, more and more aboard began to remember
snippets and details about their other existence. Though many could
and did object to the idea, soon few aboard could dispute that
Drexler had a point. The two that objected the most were Dalton --
who believed the whole thing to be some sort of Starfleet trick --
and surprisingly, Lora Kor himself, who rejected his "other" self as
little better than a killer or at best, someone playing God with the
lives in his hands.
Ironside did what he could to convince Lora Kor that any decisions
made by his alternate were no doubt necessary to save as many lives
as possible... but he was also quick to point out that Coro was
running out of time, and out of options. The ship reached Xanadu to
find it uninhabited -- the research teams normally assigned there
were gone, no doubt vanished -- and Captain Drexler put together a
team to enter the control room which he believed was at least some
of the cause of the problem. In an attempt to make the conditions
as equivalent as possible to the "other" timeline, a group composed
of both Coro officers, Lora Kor, and others went into the control
room.
Dalton took this as his chance and took over U.S.S. Coronado,
killing or disabling several of the crew in the process. He then
turned the frigate's weapons on the control room, apparently trying
to destroy the team there before they could successfully undo the
damage. Commander Daren, beamed to R.S. Vanquish a few minutes
prior, faced a difficult decision and soon had no choice but to turn
the escort's weapons on Coronado. Commander Farley reached a second
control room and reached the same conclusion, using the weapons
emplacements in Alexandria. These weapon emplacements combined with
fire from Vanquish and other vessels eventually crippled and
destroyed Coro. Soon after, through fate, coincidence, or perhaps
their or the team's actions, the timeline reset itself, returning
history to its proper course.
