Notes from the Captain:
Welcome to the interior of the object. ;) Many of you will soon
have e-mails describing specific parts of the object that your
console's sensors would reveal. You're gonna have to spend the
first part of next week comparing notes... ;)

informal meeting / poll held before the sim. I'm sorry that UCIP
politics affected and continues to affect the Coronado sim. :/

Sim Title: "King's Gambit", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
In one night, all of the braids aboard U.S.S. Coronado (including
the Flight Operations Officer, Caring-Thoughts) disappear
mysteriously. Savant feels as if she is being watched again, this
time by a familiar presence that seems amused by her.
During the Sim:
---------------
Coro's crew dealt with two mysteries: what has happened to the
braids that were aboard? And how can the frigate approach the
object apparently in orbit of the first planet in the Longshot
system?
Savant was first to notice the missing braids, including Lieutenant
Caring-Thoughts, our Flight Operations officer. A security team was
assigned to investigate the disappearances and conduct a more
thorough search of the ship, since sensors themselves might be
affected. Approaching the inner planet of the Longshot system was
potentially even trickier. The radiation of the red giant star
itself, combined with the radiation of the two gas super giant
planets in the system, made either planet impossible to approach,
even with all of Coro's shields raised. Ensign Veyla hit upon the
idea of launching a probe into the system to search it in more
detail.
While Coro awaited the probe's scan results, a more pressing problem
presented itself: a pair of Pfhor destroyers entered the system,
apparently intent on destroying Masada, our captured Pfhor cruiser.
The two ships initially ignored Coro, Vanquish, and our escort,
making attacks by the smaller ships easier, certainly. However,
the two ships pounded on the Pfhor cruiser, whose counter-attacks
were complicated by S'buuth's desire to extract the ship from the
battle and Ironside's desire to destroy the attackers. The two
wrestled for control of the cruiser, making the Pfhor's job much
easier and nearly resulting in the destruction or crippling of
Masada.
Fortunately, Vanquish and Coro were present and armed with false
matter torpedoes; the two ships turned their attacks on the
destroyers. However, these destroyers were different from ones
we've encountered in the past. More agile, their weapons were also
MUCH more accurate. In the past, Pfhor weapons have been clumsy,
but the weapons of these two ships were terrifyingly accurate,
hitting even the agile Vanquish several times. Only her false
matter shields protected the escort destroyer. The two Starfleet
ships eventually destroyed the Hegemony craft; during the battle, we
discovered the Pfhor had equipped the two ships with Starfleet
computer cores for targeting... a very disturbing development.
The Pfhor apparently continue to steal and retrofit technologies
they encounter.
With the attack blunted, Coronado turned her attention to the probe
data, which revealed two radiation-free "paths" to the object in
orbit of the first planet. The paths, apparently generated by the
object itself, allowed Coronado to approach the first planet very
closely. There, the object revealed itself as a cloaked or nested
asteroid approximately 200km in length and 75km in diameter. The
asteroid uncloaked right in front of the frigate, revealing two
portals into the interior. A tractor beam pulled Coronado within,
releasing her only once the frigate was deep within the object,
inside a chamber that looks like a cross between a Dyson Sphere and
a Camelynian Worldship...
