Notes from the Captain:
Pretty straightforward sim this week, so I'm going to keep my
comments to a minimum. Welcome back to those of you who have been a
little scarce thanks to summer vacations! :) We're moving back
into Coro's busiest season...
Overall though, nice job, everyone! The next several weeks are
going to be Science/Engineering heavy, without as much of the
Tactical/Marine focus that we've had for the last couple of months.
They also lay down the foundations for Coro's major story arc for
the NEXT year or so... ;-)

Sim Title: "King's Gambit", Part 1
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Four of Whitestone's Banshees, newly arrived from the Milky Way,
explore the Reor system. They find the remains of U.S.S. Stirling.
They also find the Pfhor, and take close scans of the occupying
forces holding the systems. The Whitestone pilots also speculate a
bit about what might have happened to the long-vanished Task Group
5.4 and what might have happened to them...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado reached the Gateway system to find it unoccupied by the
Pfhor, fortunately. What we did find were about a dozen damaged
cargo transfer cases, consistent with those used by Starfleet to
store bulk materials and parts. Scans of the containers showed they
contained torpedo casings, subspace relay coils, phaser coils, and
other items of use in strike craft construction and repair.
However, there was initially no sign of any further presence in the
system... not that we could detect, anyway.
...until the Admiral asked that a transmission containing his DNA
sequence was transmitted to the cargo containers. This transmission
resulted in four of the containers changing appearance and form to
four of an odd, ungainly strike craft design. These strike craft
were built in the Milky Way and are called Banshees. The lead pilot
in this group transmitted a code phrase expecting an answer to
Admiral Lora Kor. After a brief and embarrassing memory failure,
Lora Kor managed to come up with the right codes and prove his
identity.
At that point, the lead pilot in the Whitestone group indicated that
this group is one of six, plus two capital ships that entered M64
through the Hayashi hypergate, still apparently operational. Lora
Kor reminded Captain Daren of the inherent danger of remaining in a
Pfhor-controlled system, and advised that Coronado, the two new
capital ships, and the Whitestone strike craft leave the system as
quickly as possible.
This departure was delayed by two events. First, the Whitestone
groups themselves had scattered, looking for evidence of the long-
disappeared Task Group 5.4 and were not scheduled to rendezvous in
the Gateway system for some time. Second, it was further
complicated by events far away. Our captured Pfhor cruiser and the
rest of the Defenders reached the first rendezvous point safely, but
soon after, S'buuth chose to launch himself from the cruiser in an
operational strike craft.
Coronado gathered all of the Whitestone ships that she could, then
left Gateway just as the Pfhor were arriving there. S'buuth's
situation was much more complex and was eventually solved in a
rather unorthodox way: Vice Admiral Aldur ordered the Pfhor cruiser
prepared for a new mission. Based on the sensor data provided us by
S'buuth, one of the Taeren reconnaissance ships has located a
possible Jjaro outpost. The Jjaro are an ancient race, both the
source of Pfhor technology and god-like figures to the S'pht; the
possibilty of contacting them was enough to get S'buuth to return to
the captured Pfhor cruiser.
