Notes from the Captain:
I wanted to extend another thank you to everyone who's been writing
logs lately! They've really been of stellar quality, and I think the
last two weeks have been Coro's best logging weeks ever in almost
five years... and that's saying a LOT. :)
As to the sim itself, there's not much that I can add. Keep up the
great simming!
See you all next week!
Sim Title: "On This Rock", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Vice Admiral Aldur and Iktakto discussed the possible reasons for the
Pfhor attack on the Pitstop system, as well as the methods used to
make the system seem to disappear from our sensors. Aldur realizes
one of the implications of the Pfhor subspace nesting: if they
approach one of the other allied systems through subspace, the mines
guarding the allied systems might be of no use at all. Meanwhile, on
board U.S.S. Coronado, Tebrun Lora Kor learns of the resurrection of
Captain Jarod Bentall. Bentall was apparently cloned by a device
invented by Coro's old Chief Science Officer, Donal tr'Ragarok...
During the Sim:
---------------
The battle between the Pfhor and the Apori raged in the Pitstop
system. The two sides were more or less evenly matched, so Coronado
contented herself with observing and attempting to report back to
Reor. U.S.S. Swiftsure soon arrived with news that reinforcements
were en route and that the two smaller Starfleet ships should do what
they could to distract the Pfhor capital ships when the attack came.
In the meantime, the Captain attempted to come to terms with the
apparent resurrection of his former Executive Officer, Captain Jarod
Bentall. Bentall has been dead for very nearly a year, killed in the
Battle of Eternity in the Milky Way. During the refit of our
starship, some of the technical crew were clearing out one of the
unused cargo bays. In this bay was equipment that had sat more or
less untouched for nearly two years, placed there on the Captain's
orders following the death of a former Coronado Chief Science
Officer, Commander Donal tr'Ragarok. The Captain had ordered the
equipment stored and time devoted at spare moments to studying it
since in his last will and testament, Ragarok claimed that some of
the equipment was "key to my plans for returning from the dead."
From anyone else, such a claim would be regarded as ridiculous but
Ragarok was famous for his unorthodox inventions, some of which even
worked during his time on Coro. The Captain had therefore intended
to take no chances. When the technical crew moved to clear out the
cargo bay, Caring-Thoughts became curious about one of the devices
and activated it, setting of a transporter rematerialization cycle...
which produced Captain Bentall, complete with the knowledge and
memories he had at the time of his death.
The Captain demanded to know how such a thing was possible, and
Caring-Thoughts reported that Bentall was in fact a clone of the
original, produced from the transporter logs. The main purpose to
the device in the cargo bay appeared to be to store the knowledge and
memories of a humanoid lifeform in a reproducable format. There's no
telling if Ragarok ever knew that this device worked, and its
operation was temporary. The cycle that produced Bentall apparently
burned out several key components to the device and it is now
inactive. Savant, however, reported that there were possibly several
more large files in the computer associated with the device...
leading to the possibility that there might be part or all of other
Coronado fallen stored in unused portions of Coro's computer memory.
The discussion of this extraordinary event was interrupted when
Lieutenant Ma'Aru determined that the subspace bubble that surrounds
the Pitstop system is exactly centered on the large Pfhor behemoth
warship apparently in the system. This Pfhor vessel was not directly
participating in the fighting, and a long-range scan seemed to
indicate that it was slightly out of phase with both the Pitstop
system and the rest of the objects in the bubble. When Engineering
reported that they could modify a ship to be warp capable within the
bubble at the cost of warp capability outside the bubble, Lora Kor
proposed a scouting mission using Kelaka. Commander Daren put
together a team to fly the gig while Engineering modified the
runabout-sized craft. Kelaka was soon on her way, and was apparently
being ignored by both sides, which were far more interested in each
other.
This allowed Kelaka to take a number of interesting scans, but before
they could be completed, the Starfleet reinforcements arrived and
waded into the battle. The reinforcement flotilla included both
U.S.S. Odyssey and U.S.S. Gryphon, both of which had evidently been
upgraded with Camelynian false matter shields. The two Starfleet
warships were able to shrug off a number of the Pfhor beam attacks
and counter-attack with false matter torpedoes, the launchers for
which had apparently been installed during the repairs of both ships.
A signal transmitted from Coronado got a response from the Pfhor
about the need to teach the Starfleet group "another lesson"... and
the response sounded almost regretful...
...at least until the Pfhor reinforcements, at least 30 ships strong,
started to arrive. The Starfleet and Apori ships fell back toward
Pitstop 3 to regroup and consider their tactics.

Exchange of the Week: Coro has a bigger crew than we thought...
<FCCO_LoraKor> RR> ::nods at Caring-Thoughts:: Thank you,
Lieutenant. I'd like to see whatever information you have on the
Professor's device, as soon as possible.
<FCCO_LoraKor> RR> ::turns to Savant:: Commander, this thing was
linked to the computer, I take it?
<Savant> RR> Indeed, Sir, though it took only a nominal processor
draw, and was fairly well hidden ^_^
<LJSS_Thoughts> RR> Yes sir. ::steps back out of the way and begins
reading over a padd while still paying attention::
<FCCO_LoraKor> RR> Right. I'd like to see the history files for it,
if you can manage that. I doubt Coronado's computer is large enough
to handle too many of the files the size a full humanoid brain would
require in terms of storage.
<FCCO_LoraKor> RR> I've a feeling we've found what Ragarok meant
about the equipment being key to his plans to return from the dead.
::smiles somewhat wryly::
<Savant> RR> In fact, Sir, Coronado is aptly suited for the task
^_^ But i would doubt that it's safe. Would you like the raw files,
or an overview?
<FCCO_LoraKor> RR> Just the history will do. We need to know if
there's... well, if there's anyone else in there.
<CP___Bentall> RR> ::smiles broadly now:: You mean he was serious
about that thing? ::falters:: Obviously I guess if I'm here.
<Savant> RR> Ah, indeed! Such purgatory would be passing irritable
