Notes from the Captain:
As all of you know, Coronado operates on a "points" system -- 2 points
for attending a sim, 1 point for writing a log or attending an after-sim,
points for contributing to storyline or website, et cetera. These points
are then used to determine when your character is eligible for promotions
or certain recognitions, particularly the service level recognitions.
Though you all know it is possible to add points to your respective
totals, what you might not realize is that it is also possible to lose
points. Though this is more rare, it does happen, especially when you
cause mental anguish to your CO.
Launching a vicious pun attack, for instance.
I hate to say it, but some of you delved into negative point totals for
THAT little stunt...
See you all next week!
(Yes, of course I'm kidding. ;-) )
Sim Title: "On This Rock", Part 1
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Coronado has been in orbit of Reor for several weeks, undergoing minor
repairs following her mission in the Pitstop and Artemis systems and the
battle in the I032 system. Each month, one of the Starfleet vessels
remains in Reor orbit to provide defense of the system. During this
time, many members of the crew engage in recreational activities, whether
recreation for each individual means relaxation, assisting with the
construction of starship Destiny, or defending Churchill Downs and the
surrounding island from guerilla Hunter and Hound attacks.
During the Sim:
---------------
Coro gathered her last few officers and crew members back onto the ship.
Our time in the Reor system was over, and Coro had been ordered to move
along the "southern" patrol route through allied space, revalidating the
LORASON scans we have of the southern systems. Though we have run this
patrol several times, we recently learned that some of our sensor data
was suspect because the Pfhor biosoftware virus was altering the LORASON
data, hiding the presence of Pfhor warships in allied space. We have
destroyed the virus where it exists in Coronado's systems, but we will
need the updated sensor scans to confirm that the virus didn't modify any
of the other data.
As a result, Coro set an initial course for the Z'Hora system, near the
far southern edge of allied space. Our LORASON combined with our
slipstream drive means that we can recheck all of the southern systems in
only a few days; presumably U.S.S. Vanguard, the other LORASON-equipped
ship, is checking the northern systems. En route, the Captain, XO, and
several others discussed the possibility of modifying Coro's Bridge for
greater convenience to the frigate's growing contingent of non-human
officers. In addition, Alados ha-Soron, though not in Starfleet, has
found an increasing amount of work piloting the frigate and would need
some kind of more compatible chair when he is performing this or other
duties. However, this relatively mundane discussion was interrupted...
As Coronado passed close to the Pitstop system, a transmission was sent
to the ship by the Apori that live there. The Apori are rabidly
emotional and their language is difficult to translate in the best of
circumstances. However, when they become excited, they are nearly
impossible to understand. This was apparently one of those cases because
their message was nearly unintelligible, but at least one word was clear
enough: "Accursed", the word the Apori have adoped to refer to the Pfhor.
Coro changed course and headed for the system. A LORASON pulse sent
there revealed some kind of subspace interference in the system.
That interference only got worse as Coro approached, and we were obliged
to use the ship's main deflector to try and smooth out some of the
subspace disruptions to get anywhere close to the system. We detected
a five light-year wide "bubble" of interference around the system that
prevented LORASON sensors and subspace communications from operating.
From our perspective, the system itself seemed to "vanish" as if it were
cloaked or partially nested in subspace. The mysterious Apori "starfish"
defense ships, in particular, showed up as almost completely nested into
local subspace. Intrigued, Coro slipped closer, managing to get within a
light-year of the system despite the very strong subspace interference
that made warp and slipstream travel extremely dangerous.
Once we were close enough, we found one possible reason for the
disturbance: a full fleet of Pfhor warships were in the system, supported
by something at least ten times as large -- a Pfhor dreadnought of some
kind? The Apori were moving to defend against this threat.

Exchange of the Week: Actually took place the day before the sim...
<Heiwa> What's the WW2 thing?
<Jester> Four or five people are doing a simulation of Normandy on the
holodeck.
<Heiwa> And ...
<Jester> So, I included a bit of it in the teaser.
<Heiwa> it just happened to occur during the sim called "On This Rock"?
<Heiwa> No one is that lucky ;)
<Jester> I am, apparently. ;)
<Heiwa> LOL.
Runner up -- took place the day after the sim...
<Jester> You participated in last night's pun war, didn't you? ;)
<Aggie> hey, the pun war was pfhun
<Shadow-FjP> please god not again.......
<Aggie> what? you think that the puns weren't pfhun?
<Daren> :)
<Aggie> I pfhound them immensely pfhun. Then again, a pun is always
pfhun. At least, pfhor me.
