Notes from the Captain:
Nice work, everyone! A very nice, layered sim with a lot going on
both in the main plot and the various subplots. This is reflected in
the sim summary, which is quite long this week. Sorry about that,
but it's YOUR fault -- there was a lot going on! ;)
By the way, a bit of trivia for the true Coronado history buffs out
there. Captain Enrique Lopez (mentioned in this week's teaser) was
a character that was designed three years ago to be a foil and
internal ally/goad/competitor/conflict point for one Captain Brian
Aldur after the latter had been in command of U.S.S. Pegasus for a
while. ;) As a result, he's mentioned a couple of times in early
Pegasus logs/teasers. Sadly, I never got a chance to play out those
stories, so you'll probably see a reference or three to him between
now and the end. ;)

Sim Title: "Dilemma of Principles", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
The Captain called in his recommendation -- that the allies do not
have the strength to change the Pfhor's plans for the Micropolis
system. He then settled down in his Ready Room to await a response.
While waiting, he pulled up old Starfleet records looking for
creative solutions to this or a similar problem that other Starfleet
Captains might have tried in the past. In the process, he learns
that there are many ways to abide by the Prime Directive...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado and Blackrazor continued to wait in the Micropolis system
for some kind of response to the Captain's recommendation. In the
meantime, several of the crew continued to debate the finer points of
the issue of essentially throwing an entire sentient species to the
wolves (so to speak). Commander Daren oversaw the launching of
several stealthed probes into Micropolis orbit, in a further attempt
to determine how far the Hunters and Hounds have infiltrated the
planet surface. Several others of the crew took the opportunity of
the quiet to catch up on overdue maintenance or upkeep, or to take
time for recreational activities.
Less routine: many aboard the ship reported the feeling of being
watched, and Savant was able to piece together the information that
this only seems to happen when Coro is "north" of Reor. Colonel
Ironside speculated that perhaps the "red smoke" that the Traxati
showed us in their holographic images may have something to do with
it. The Colonel's speculation was interrupted when he started
spontaneously teleporting... just as he did the last time that he
felt he was being watched... Ironside proceeded to Sickbay on the
Captain's orders.
The Captain spent some time in his Ready Room going over reports of
past situations involving violations of the Prime Directive. This
research is interrupted by Alados, who brings a problem to the
Captain's attenion. On his own planet, Alados would be surrounded by
telepaths and he is beginning to feel not only isolated, but quite
possibly the first symptoms of withdrawl. The Captain speculates
that contact with other telepaths might be a sort of "dietary
requirement" of Alados's species, and Alados does not dispute that
this might be possible. The Captain suggests an initial possible
approach to the problem will be for Alados to request assistance from
the ship's medical staff. Lora Kor speculates that perhaps Alados's
neural receptors could be desensitized to what he is feeling, since
we currently have no way to "treat" Alados directly... Later, he
asked Alados to help train Ironside in controlling his stray thoughts
with the idea that perhaps Ironside's teleportation is linked somehow
to an unconscious desire to be in the places he thinks about.
This discussion and the other work aboard was interrupted with the
arrival of a Camelynian destroyer. Initially, the destroyer refused
to answer hails, and entered the system very close to Micropolis 2.
The ship was close enough to the planet, in fact, that it was in
danger of being detected by the excellent astronomy of the Micropolis
natives. Summoned to the Bridge, the Captain played what was quite
possibly his only card: in the name of "Duke Brian Aldur of Camelyn,"
he ordered the destroyer to halt and hold its position. The Captain
explained this probably wouldn't stop the Camelynians for long, but
that he had in effect, "pulled rank" on those aboard the ship.
This at least caused the ship, C.S. Sabre, to respond to hails. The
CO of Sabre, Viscount John Tori Marnham, reported that he was under
orders to approach the planet and bring "representatives" of the
planet's government back to the Reor system. Presumably, the
Camelynian plan is to goad the Starfleet personnel into action by
showing us representatives of the people who the Pfhor will be
conquering. The Captain was having none of this, and in an elaborate
ruse, convinced Tori Marnham that a conference aboard Coro would be
in his best interests, if for no other reason than to "coordinate the
conflicting orders" that exist between Starfleet and the Camelynians.
Tori Marnham agreed and turned Sabre toward Coro, displaying a warp
flash that was almost certainly detected on Micropolis.
This seemed confirmed a moment later when every living being in the
system received a telepathic "transmission" from the planet,
wondering "why we are doing that"... whatever that means...
