Notes from the Captain:
As I said during the sim, it wouldn't be Coro without a philosophy
discussion from time to time. ;) These sims aren't for everybody,
but I really do believe you can learn a lot about someone's
character from how the character responds to this kind of sim.
But, because they're not for everyone, they don't happen often. ;)
For those who participated, nice job! :)
See you all next week!
Sim Title: "Dilemma of Principles", Part 1
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Reorsan President Darine n'Chamba is called by "the Commodore"
again, the only representative we have currently of the Pfhor
Hegemony. n'Chamba learns during the communication that the Pfhor
have taken an interest in the natives of the Micropolis system,
which from Starfleet's perspective is protected by the Prime
Directive... The Commodore warns n'Chamba not to interfere with the
Pfhor's plans for the system.
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado and Blackrazor, two of the fastest ships in the group,
proceeded to the Micropolis system at best speed. Our mission is to
investigate the system, staying hidden from the inhabitants, and
determine if the Pfhor have made good on their threat to annex the
system for the Hegemony. Despite the fact that this system is less
than 20 light-years from Reor, the allies have no presence there
because the system is protected by the Prime Directive. Even though
the Churchill descendants have generally rejected the Directive, they
have not contacted the Micropolis natives to date, probably because
the natives are relatively primitive.
The Reorsans do have decent information about the natives themselves,
however. We know that they are six-legged wolf-like carnivores. In
addition, there is good evidence to support the belief that they are
both telepathic and telekinetic. Their technology tends toward the
low-end of 20th century technology on Earth, except that their
chemistry and astronomy are better and their physics is much worse.
In physics, their knowledge is barely over 15th century Earth levels;
they have no knowledge of gravitational laws, for instance, and not
much more in the way of structures or materials science. This makes
the planet an interesting mix of modern and primitive.
Our orders from the group were to scan the planet and search for
Pfhor activity, but not to contact the natives. We were simply to
observe and report. As a result, Coronado stayed outside the system,
using her LORASON and other sensors to search the system. Starship
Blackrazor, travelling with us, used her cloaking device to slip
closer to the planet and take close-range sensor and visual scans of
activity on the surface.
While this was going on, Coro's senior officers gathered to debate
the issue of the Prime Directive and whether we should assist the
Micropolis natives against the Pfhor. This debate ranged all over
the spectrum with some officers arguing the ethics of condemning a
race to be conquered by the Pfhor, and others arguing for the Prime
Directive. Colonel Ironside was probably the most pragmatic,
pointing out that the allies simply have no way to mount a successful
defense of the system -- we don't have the strength to do it. Those
who were arguing against interference siezed on the Colonel's
argument as yet another reason not to break the Prime Directive.
Blackrazor soon reported that she uncovered evidence that there is a
significant Pfhor presence on the planet. The Captain ended the
discussion by stating that he would recommend that we not attempt to
thwart the Pfhor's efforts in the system for the reasons given by the
Colonel. However, our Apori and Camelynian allies might see this
reaction as cowardice or throwing a sentient species to the mercy of
the Pfhor conquerors. We have yet to see how they'll react...
