Notes from the Captain:
Very nice, low-key sim this week. Nice job, all. :) Not much more
I can say about it, other than next week ought to be even more
relaxed.
Thompson, where are you?! ;) Missing two sims in a row without any
word is definitely unlike you. Please let me know if you're still
alive. ;)
See you all next week!
Sim Title: "Swordplay", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Jia Ron Drull, our primary contact with the Taer, helps repulse an
attack by the Pfhor on the Taer home system and is then instructed
by his Elders not to allow another attack on the system to occur.
Drull is convinced that assisting the alliance is a more efficient
way to do this than to interfere with the Pfhor directly, and so
spends more time "listening in" on alliance strategy sessions.
During one of these sessions, Drull learns that Aldur's chief desire
is to have a method of instantaneous communications across long
distances...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado reached the planet in the Quaatis Nebula that some believe
to be the Thistledown, a planet Coro explored in the Milky Way.
However, the question of how a planet could be transported 19
million light-years remains unanswered. The Captain is openly
skeptical, believing the planet to be a ruse or deception of some
sort. He believes that someone or something wants us to believe
that the planet is the Thistledown, but that it actually is not.
However, even the Captain can't understand why someone or something
might want us to believe this.
Admittedly, the planet has any number of elements in common with the
Thistledown. For instance, sensors, transporters, and
communications, as well as other high-energy systems work unreliably
in the vicinity of the planet, in the same way these devices did in
the Milky Way. It's also clear that phasers and other directed
energy weapons will not work in the atmosphere. The question of
whether false matter swords and related devices will work is open to
question, however. We didn't have access to false matter devices in
the Milky Way. However, there are also differences between this
"new" planet and the Thistledown. In particular, there are
geographical regions that are completely different from the planet
we explored.
In particular, Commander Daren finds a number of elements on the
planet that seem to be direct "copies" of items that he included in
a holonovel programmed into Coronado's computers. The Captain is
ready to take this as direct proof that the planet is a deception,
until we learn that there are also a number of Federation Starfleet
devices functional on the planet, including at least one
communicator. Reluctantly, the Captain decides to send a team to
the surface to recover the Starfleet technology so that it can't
disrupt the natural development of the planet's culture... assuming
that what we're orbiting is a planet, and not some sort of
hallucination.
Transporters, as a high-energy system, will not work in the planet's
atmosphere, leaving secondary spacecraft as the only means of
reaching the surface. However, we know from our experience with the
Thistledown that any airborne craft will probably come under attack
by one of the planet's native species: dragons. Sure enough, when
an away team is sent to the planet aboard Kelaka, both the Captain's
gig and two fighters sent to escort the gig are attacked by the
creatures. Kelaka reaches the surface safely, but a Spectre flown
by Marine Captain Serrold is "shot down" by one of the creatures.
The away team aboard Kelaka reaches the surface more or less
undetected. The same cannot be said for Serrold, whose cockpit
module detaches and falls into an alien corn field. Surrounded by
the people working the fields, Serrold is taken for a "demon,
fallen from the sky." Guards near the farm surround the Marine and
he attempts to defend himself with a false-matter sword. However,
the sword's replicator, explodes on activation in the planet's
atmosphere, destroying Serrold's right arm and hand. The away team
attempts to reach Serrold, who is quickly bleeding to death, but
aboard Kelaka, all they can really do is watch from above and reveal
their own presence through the noise of the gig's engines. Kelaka
is struck by some sort of green energy beam from a wand one of the
guards is carrying...

Exchange of the Week: When all else fails, throw things!
<CRXO_Daren> Just a minute Commander, ::looks at Tlaloco:: We
haven't yet finished sensor analysis from orbit... and ::looks to
tactical:: Let's try locking onto the planetary comm signal.
<CRXO_Daren> ::glanes at the PADD again:: I know I've seen that
somewhere...
<CRXO_Daren> Its just that...::opens his eyes wide:: Wait! ::looks
directly at the Holotank, then turns to Marcy at tactical and tosses
the PADD to him:: Lieutenant Marcy, think fast!
<LTtc_Marcy> ::looks around, not terribly sure of what was going on.
he'd recived a note from his brother a few days earlier. Marcy
quickly snaps out of the daydream early enough to get smited by a
flying PADD::
<Savant> CIC> :her head turns towards Daren, despite him being in a
seperate room::
<FCCO_LoraKor> ::crosses from the RR to the Bridge just in time to
see Marcy conquered by a flying PADD::
<LTtc_Marcy> ::picks the PADD off the floor and rubs his face a
little::
<CRXO_Daren> Less dreaming Lieutenant....do me a favor, bring up
real time sensor data on those coordinates of the planets surface on
the Holotank...
<FCCO_LoraKor> ::calculates the reverse trajectory like the fighter
pilot he once was and looks over to Daren::
<LTtc_Marcy> Yes, sir.
<Savant> CIC> :::the hologram can't help but grin at what was going
on in the bridge, though again she wasn't there::
