Notes from the Captain:
Not much to say to this one. :-) Everybody did a great job! You won't
see me use music in-sim very much because the music determines the
outcome, and this music's outcome makes it clear that though there are
problems, everything generally comes out all right in the end. And you
all know how much I hate to give away the outcome of a plot. ;-) In
addition, even the longest piece of music is over far too soon in a sim,
making it seem like "things went by so fast." So, most of the time, I'll
suggest music for mood, but the next time I have an explicity piece of
music specified for a specific moment in sim isn't until July...

Sim Title: "Against Her Will", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Coronado has returned to the Reor system, her escort mission having been
completed successfully for the most part. Pearl, Crystal Palace, and the
support and defense ships associated with them have been moved to the
Artemis system west of Reor, and that system has been mined to defend
against possible Pfhor incursions. In the meantime, Coro returned to
Reorsa to pick up the Captain and assist with the launching of Reorsan
starship Destiny from the surface.
During the Sim:
---------------
Those aboard Coronado took the opportunity to relax after the chaos of
the last several weeks. Some ventured into workouts or the holodeck,
while others saw to the damage that Coronado sustained during our recent
escort mission. Colonel Ironside got his recreation in another way: by
destroying a Hunter attack on the settlement of Andalee on the south tip
of the island.
However, the big news of the week was the launching of starship Destiny
from the surface of Reorsa to Mobile Repair Facility Onyx in Reor orbit.
This had been planned for several weeks, but now it was time to make it
happen. While a small team under Commander Oswald assisted the Reorsan
teams with preparing the ship for launch, Coro was put in place to catch
the skeleton with a tractor beam when it reached orbital space. The
general plan was to launch the ship on a ballistic trajectory that would
get it out of the atmosphere, but not into orbit. It was therefore the
job of our ship to turn this ballistic trajectory into an orbital one,
then tow the skeleton to Onyx, where the next phase of Destiny's
construction will begin.
While Commander Daren saw to the preparations aboard Coro, the Captain
visited Commander Oswald aboard Destiny. Oswald, surprisingly, insisted
on seeing the skeleton into orbit herself, and was prepared to do it
alone... but the Captain insisted in turn that Oswald pick a small team
to assist. Several people were therefore drafted to assist, including,
rather surprisingly, Colonel Ironside. The Captain deferred, saying that
he'd flown enough "beta versions" of spacecraft into orbit, but said that
he was proud of Oswald's bravery for doing so, something that annoyed the
young Engineer -- known for her desire to stay out of dangerous
situations -- no end. The fact that she had volunteered for this
particular danger was probably of no comfort...
In the end, though, the launch was carried through with only moderate
difficulty. The Destiny skeleton launched on time, and had proceeded
through about 60 seconds of the launch without incident. However, at
that point, several of the inertial dampeners failed. There was only
moderate danger to the skeleton in this, but the dampeners were the only
thing protecting the crew against the G-forces of the launch, which were
significant, as the skeleton was doing everything it could to "sprint"
out of the atmosphere. The crew aboard Destiny managed to stabilize the
dampening field long enough for the impulse engines to finish their work,
but the result was to reduce the power to the engines and therefore
Destiny's final altitude and speed.
Coronado was obliged to drop into a much lower orbit to successfuly snare
Destiny in her tractor beam, and the frigate's powerful engines proved to
be necessary to power the linked ships back into a higher orbit. Coro
successfully towed Destiny to Onyx without further incident, where the
MRF took charge of the Destiny skeleton and docked her into place.
