Excellent sim, everyone! Coro tactical sims are at their best when
our situation is a little desperate, I think. ;-) The action

Sim Title: "Despair and Defiance", Part 2
Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Vice Admiral Aldur and the other officers in the Ministry of Defense
monitor the Pfhor warships in H042, trying to determine their plan.
While Aldur wishes for a instantaneous communications method and
Narque jokes that he's getting bored, the Pfhor battleship reaches
Reor. Without any warning, the battleship fires... destroying
U.S.S. Stirling. The battleship then hails the planet.
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado notes a flash of... something passing through the H042
system, then a few minutes later, detects the Pfhor battleship
destroy Stirling in the Reor system. Nearly immediately after
seeing the destruction, we detect a second something pass through
the H042 system. Commander Savant theorizes that the Pfhor are
using the new warships in H042 to create some kind of subspace rift,
and the Captain agrees, immediately ordering Coronado to the H042
system.
The Captain's plan is a little desperate -- we have to do anything
we can to destroy or disrupt the rift being created by the Pfhor.
He immediately orders the senior staff to break out every weird,
crazy idea that they have. Coro is the only ship within striking
distance of H042 and at five-to-one odds, we're unlikely to last
very long. The Captain confirms this by deciding our mission: get
in, destroy as many of the long, slender ships as we can, then get
out. With the subspace rift destroyed, at least the Pfhor won't be
able to bring in further reinforcements.
While Coronado is en route, the Pfhor bring additional ships into
the Meyer and Pitstop systems. We receive word that a group
centered on U.S.S. Vanguard is helping defend the Meyer system, and
the Apori can presumably halt the attack in the Pitstop system
themselves. Then, when Coro arrives in H042, we have our own
problems.
After deploying fighters, in three quick passes, Coronado destroys
two of the "rift ships" and seriously damages another. During the
first pass, we manage to take the Pfhor by surprise, but by the
third pass, Coro is taking serious damage from the destroyers and
Pfhor strike craft in system. The Captain orders a quick retreat,
and our Spectres follow. During the battle, our communications and
LORASON sensors are badly damaged. Coronado is blind and deaf.
We have been successful -- the subspace rift is destroyed -- but we
may have been too late. The Pfhor battleship is still in orbit of
Reorsa and we are receiving only very sketchy information about what
might be happening there. Lora Kor orders Coronado back to Reor at
best speed -- we will stand or fall with the rest of our people.
