Notes from the Captain:
I apologize again for all the server problems this week. About a
day after the sim, the KDFS network administrators finally took us
seriously and unlinked qonos from the rest of the network and
established a new hub. This seems to have made things a lot more
stable. Since I'm still about 1,000 miles away from the bot
computer, it occurred to me that we can't switch networks anyway --
I have no way to reestablish LCARS on another server until the move
is complete. I'm therefore willing to give KDFS another few weeks
to see if this fix works... let me know if you have any concerns,
though, and I'll be more than happy to talk about them.
We'll be picking up next week's sim just a couple of minutes after
this week was interrupted, and in a way, this has kidna worked
'cause I can spring the surprise that was going to happen mid-part
1 in the teaser for part 2 instead. Therefore, prepare for a
somewhat longer-than-normal sim on Monday...

Sim Title: "Despair and Defiance", Part 1
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Fleet Captain Rel'ao Narque calls Grey-Mist-Over-Oceans to U.S.S.
Stirling. Grey-Mist is currently the allies' foremost expert in the
translation of the Apori language, other than Jia Ron Drull. Narque
claims to have discovered another layer in the Apori language, a
level of context even more complex than their standard contextual
complexities. In the new layer, "the One" (long taken as the Apori
expression for God) has three possible translations. Narque asks
Grey-Mist to confirm his work.
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado has been ordered to alter her patrol route a bit
"northwest." Earlier in the week, one of the new arrivals to M64,
U.S.S. Thunderchild, was ordered into the area near Tarndare with
the thought of scanning the area. Sooner or later, we're going to
have to "take the battle to the Pfhor" if we're going to convince
them we're serious about our intentions to hold our space. That
means both getting good scans of the border area between neutral
space and Pfhor space, and getting better warning before Pfhor ships
enter allied space. Thunderchild hasn't reported in several hours,
however, so Coro was ordered to use her LORASON sensors to sweep the
area, both around Tarndare, and looking for Thunderchild. We
therefore proceeded into Grid 003, just south and east of Tarndare.
Meanwhile, Lt. Commander Farley appeared to have some sort of mental
breakdown in Seventh Heaven. Lieutenants Marcy and Vogel headed
there along with Commander Tlaloco in an attempt to restrain the
rampaging engineer. Nobody is quite sure what prompted Farley's
display, and it took several minutes to get close enough to Farley
to incapacitate him. Vogel had the engineer transported to Sickbay
and there, the officers tried to determine what had happened to
cause the rampage.
En route to the area, Coronado detected a small group of Pfhor
warships in the H042 system. H042 is uninhabited, and it was at
first unclear what the Pfhor ships could be doing. The main group
of Pfhor ships were five of the destroyer-class warships, escorting
six of a new class of ship. Long and slender, the rather un-Pfhor
design was more reminiscent of Apori construction, but was clearly
made of the dark biological material that the Pfhor construct all of
their warships from. Captain Serrold and Colonel Ironside noted
that the formation of these six new ships was also similar to Apori
formations when creating the subspace rift they use to travel.
<<At that point, the sim was disrupted by a network outage that
lasted about 15 minutes. After a brief recognition ceremony, the
crew was dismissed until next week.>>
