Notes from the Captain:
Well, the setup is more or less complete. ;) In honor of the Labor
Day weekend in the United States, Monday night's sim will be a bit
more relaxed than the normal part 1, mostly setting up the storyline
to come. We're now in control of some true Pfhor warships for the
first time; let's find out what we can do with them. ;)
Second, a bit of an apology. I didn't realize how LONG this week's
sim was until I really sat down to reread the transcript and take
notes for the report. You guys did fantastically well! I'm way
impressed. :) Thank you for all your hard work!

Sim Title: "When Did This Place Become Home?", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

Meanwhile, back in the Milky Way, the senior executives of
Whitestone Enterprises (a company once run by Tebrun Lora Kor) have
a bad day. Their latest proposal to Starfleet Command, regarding a
small craft known as the "Banshee," has been rejected. Whitetone
had built 24 prototypes of the craft, which Starfleet orders
destroyed. However, the General Manager of the company, a Ferengi
named Kishrak, has learned that Tebrun Lora Kor may be alive, but
millions of light-years away. He therefore resolves to destroy the
prototypes in a rather unique way...
During the Sim:
---------------
The worst happened: the Pfhor have devised a method for attacking
open space. A small object dropped into the Defender staging area
had allowed the Pfhor to rift-gate two groups of their destroyers
into the area. These two groups dropped more of the objects,
allowing six full groups of Pfhor Hegemony destroyers to enter the
area, as well as two Pfhor cruisers. The assembled ships launched
strike craft and moved as one to crush the Defenders. The attacking
group seemed more than sufficient to do the job. We could not
escape without our support ships, which needed time to power up and
escape the system; it was time we didn't appear to have.
Aboard Coronado, however, our S'pht "guest" S'buuth had other ideas.
He contacted the S'pht aboard the Pfhor ships and transmitted a
single word. Seconds later, the Pfhor ships stopped firing -- all
of them -- and their defenses, including their biological armoring,
collapsed all at once. 32 Pfhor capital ships found themselves out
our mercy. For a few shocked minutes, the Defenders could not
believe what had happened... and then half the Defender Admiralty,
including Lora Kor, authorized the destruction of all nearby Pfhor
ships. The surviving Defender starships moved in to do this rather
grisly task. Even with what the Pfhor have put us through, though,
there were many who were sickened by the slaughter. We didn't have
much choice, however; we're unlikely to get the opportunity to
strike such a hard blow against the Hegemony again.
Admiral Lora Kor, meanwhile, learned what word S'buuth had
transmitted: Masada. Masada is from Earth history, and was the site
of a mass suicide: Jewish defenders at the fortress of Masada slew
themselves rather than risk capture by Roman troops. S'buuth had
transmitted, with one word and its context, the entire concept of
slavery to the S'pht controlling those Pfhor warships. The S'pht,
once they understood the concept, emulated those ancient Jews.
Horrified by self-sacrifice on such a massive scale, Lora Kor
attempted to argue the point with S'buuth. S'buuth argued that the
mass suicide was necessary and fully understood by the S'pht who did
it; Lora Kor countered that S'buuth is learning to be an "Overlord"
-- the S'pht name for the Pfhor leadership -- all too quickly.
The end result, however: we were given the ultimate opportunity to
capture relatively defenseless Pfhor vessels. Two managed to get
some of their systems operational... to a point. It was quite clear
that the Pfhor ships cannot operate effectively without the S'pht,
becoming all but paralyzed. Colonel Ironside took advantage of
this, moving teams onto two of the ships, intending to capture them.
S'buuth asked to accompany these teams, and after a brief
discussion between Ironside and Lora Kor, was allowed to.
Once aboard, the Pfhor proved that they were not beaten yet: they
fought ferociously for every inch of their ships. However, the
S'pht apparently also handle reconnaissance and coordination of the
Pfhor attacks, and without them available, the Marines, Camelynians,
Loktai, and Boratis were able to gain ground. Once aboard, though,
S'buuth demonstrated his most terrifying capability yet: the ability
to control the thoughts and actions of the Hunters aboard the Pfhor
cruiser. Intending to "teach them freedom," S'buuth instead took
control of their minds.
We had little time to contemplate the implications of this, however:
an even larger Pfhor group began to arrive, and Vice Admiral Aldur
ordered all Defender ships -- including our two prize ships, one
controlled by S'buuth, the other by Savant -- out of the area.
Coronado, meanwhile, received an emergency message from an old
friend of Admiral Lora Kor's in the Gateway system; Lora Kor
therefore ordered Coronado into that system with all speed. The
message -- a hologram of a Ferengi -- claimed that he has "left
something" for Lora Kor in that system.
