Notes from the Captain:
Welcome aboard to Archyyt, who joins us in the position of Marine
Flight Leader, replacing Aggie's Craig Serrold character. He did a
good job this week, so let's go easy on him. Maybe he'll stick
around. ;) He might even stop threatening to have me killed so he
can take over the sim. ;)
During the months of July and August, anyone who writes a written
e-mail log will receive double promotion credit (two points instead
of one) for that log. Partially, this is to encourage the rather
slow log count we've had lately, partially it's to offset the fact
that a lot of the sims between now and the end of August will be of
a more action-oriented bent without a lot of time for character
development. So, get out there and write some logs! ;)

Sim Title: "Mutually Assured Survival", Part 3
Teaser and Pre-Sim:

The Defenders implement their two-pronged attack plan. Coronado,
Renegade, and Churchill launch a feint attack into the Pearce
system, destroying a relatively minor Pfhor Hegemony supply depot
in the system. The true reason for the attack in Pearce, however,
is to draw Pfhor forces out of the nearby Honeycutt system, a major
Pfhor shipyard, repair facility, and shore leave location. While
Coro, Renegade, and Churchill are in Pearce, the remaining bulk of
the Defenders plan to enter Honeycutt and do as much damage as
possible before the Pfhor realize the Defenders's true intentions...
During the Sim:
---------------
Coronado is far to the "west" of Reorsa now, deep within Pfhor
space, though our exact location is classified to most of the crew.
We have just finished the job of destroying the suppliy depot in the
Pearce system; however, once the depot is destroyed, Lora Kor
refuses to allow the three Defender ships to leave the system. He
explains that every minute we can remain in Pearce, and every Pfhor
ship we can draw from Honeycutt, will give the main attack force
more time to wreak havoc in Honeycutt. As a result, Coro can do
little but evade the monstrous destroyers of the Hegemony as her
fighters try to keep Pfhor strike craft from swarming her.
The three ships endure eleven minutes of this treatment, fighting
back as best they can. Quick false matter torpedo snapshots from
the Defender vessels manage to destroy two Pfhor ships and disable a
third, but the vast bulk of the Hegemony's starships remain until
the first distress calls begin arriving from Honeycutt. By the time
the eleven minutes before this happens are over, all three of the
Defender ships are heavily damaged, Renegade worst of all.
Coronado's sister frigate is transfixed on a Pfhor antiproton beam
through her secondary hull, nearly destroying her. It will likely
be months before Renegade flies again.
However, there is some good news: we are able to monitor the effects
of the attack on the Honeycutt system in real time, thanks to the
ansible, and it is clear that the attack there goes more or less as
planned. Before the Starfleet group is driven from Honeycutt, the
Hegemony base there is all but destroyed. In addition, the strength
of the Pfhor distress calls from the system allow Commander Ma'Aru
to finally isolate the frequencies the Pfhor use for long-range
communications. Lora Kor taunts the leader of the Pfhor forces in
Pearce with this knowledge, and the knowledge of what is happening
in Honeycutt. Responding to their base's distress call, most of the
destroyers return there.
Coro, Renegade, and Churchill manage to destroy a third and forth
Pfhor destroyer during the confusion, and heavily damage another,
separating the ship from its docking facilities. Once the system is
clear of Pfhor warships, Lora Kor gives the ships one hour to clear
the system. Ironside uses the time to send Marines to the separated
docking facility. There, the Marines and Savant learn that the
Pfhor strike craft are controlled from a single point source inside
the docking bay, and probably by a lifeform that works from this
location. Meanwhile, Engineering and Medical teams from Churchill
see to Renegade.
Atlas tugs, escorted by Apori warships, arrive to take Renegade into
tow an for a few scary moments, it looks as if the Will of the One
might have hijacked the Starfleet frigate. However, this turns out
to be a breakdown in communications, something that the Defenders
continue to have problems with between the forces of at least five
very different cultures. Ironside convinces Savant that the Pfhor
docking bay is a prize worth removing from the system; Savant agrees
and the Atlas tugs are called back to tow it out of the system, in
cooperation with a squadron of Wraiths also modified for towing.
These Wraiths had been earlier seen towing a Pfhor ship out of the
Honeycutt system.
Once the system is clear, the Defender ships withdraw. The day has
not been without losses -- major ones -- but overall, it's a clear
victory for Aldur and Theron's guerilla war.
