 Notes from the Captain:

Like many Coro part 1 sims, this one was a bit of an exercise in getting
the chess pieces where I needed 'em, but hopefully it was an enjoyable
exercise nonetheless. ;-) Next week, more meaningful communications
with the Apori and a few surprises. See you then!

I've unfortunately had to place J'aren Mayo on the MIA list and release
his posting. He told me he'd be back from LOA around late September,
and e-mails sent to him have gone unanswered...

Remember, a very detailed map of the part of M64 Coro finds herself in is
 available for your review at:

 http://www.jestertrek.com/m64/

Coro's current position is the G047 system, which you'll find in Grid
014, but is admittedly kind of tough to find. Hopefully, this will help:
on the large map on the front page, click on Reor. You'll jump to Grid
 004. Now, click on the grid in the upper left corner. This is Grid 014.
In the lower right sector of Grid 014, you'll find two large red stars.
Look at the smaller of the two red stars, then let your eye travel to the
left. The small yellow star directly below the larger red star is G047.
It is clickable, but the database only has our pre-visit information...

Sim Title: "Running from the Storm", Part 1

Two days have passed since Vladivostok left the Tarndare system. Coronado
continued to wait for her return in the Omsi system. However, while at
warp en route for Coro, the freighter encountered a group of nested Apori
warships. Vladivostok was forced from warp to find her warp drive
temporarily disabled. This seemed to be very bad news indeed, but the
Apori were apparently not hostile. After surrounding the freighter, they
merely held position around her. Soon after, Apori refugee ships began
emerging into normal space nearby and passing Vladivostok. Colonel
Ironside, commanding the mission, attempted to communicate with the Apori,
but Lieutenant Ma'Aru initially reported little luck in deciphering the
 alien language.

Soon, a group of more than 20 Apori refugee ships had emerged, passed the
freighter, and approached a second rift opened for them by the warships.
The Vladivostok crew soon guessed that they had somehow interrupted a
convoy, a perception that seemed to be confirmed when Lt. Skylooker,
running the freighter's engineering department, reported that warp drive
and the Apori propulsion system are mutually incompatible. One cannot
operate in close proximity to the other. Once some kind of communication
was established between Vladivostok and the Apori ships, the latter
seemed remarkably understanding. Ma'Aru was able to translate the fact
that the Apori recognize that the Starfleet people have helped them in
the past in some fashion, and that they recognize that we are "closer to
the one," whatever that means. However, they did caution the freighter
regarding some nearby "perversion" and took Vladivostok in tow. The
refugee ships disappeared into the second rift, followed by the Apori
warships, followed by Vladivostok and her Wraiths.

Coro was close enough to be able to monitor the situation, but too far
away to be of any actual help. Even subspace messages took three minutes
to travel between the two ships, including the images of Vladivostok being
pulled into the second rift. Commander Janeway was able to track the
course of the Apori ships, however, so the Captain decided to risk a
slipstream jump to catch up with Vladivostok and her new "escort."
However, slipstream was also mutually incompatible with the Apori
propulsion system, and Coro had to drop out of the stream about a light-
year short of the Apori ship's destination, system G047 in Grid 014.
Around this very minor star waited a second group of Apori warships,
apparently ready to send the arriving refugee ships on the next leg of
their journey. They proceeded to do this, continuing to warn Vladivostok
of imminent danger from the "perversion of the one." With a growing sense
of unease, the Captain ordered Coro into the system at best speed -- high
impulse -- and ordered fighters launched.

Fortunately, the soliton wave drives on the Spectres were apparently able
to operate in proximity to the Apori drive systems, so the fighters jumped
to warp for the system, arriving quickly. Seeing this, Commander Janeway
devised a process for Coro to mimic this procedure for the short jump into
G047 at warp. Coro and her fighters arrived just in time to observe the
apparent arrival of the Apori's "perversion:" three Pfhor heavy destroyer
class ships emerged from spacefolds into the system.

Exchange of the Week: The tail tries to tow the dog... ;-)
<[MJSL_Wayne-W4]> ::checks systems quickly:: Ryosei, try and latch a
 tractor on the Vlad.
<[Ryosei-W4]> Hai! ::taps away rather quickly on her terminal, having
memorized its lay out to a good degree::
<[Ryosei-W4]> ::Ryosei attempts to tractor the ageing Vladivostok::
<[L2SL_Prescot-W1]> more power to the engines dammit!! ::tires to cut the
distance between the wraith and the Vlad::
<CoroLCARS> =.\ction= Wraith 4 links to Vladivostok with a tractor beam.
It's not what you would call a resounding success. Wraith 4 gets yanked
 after the much bigger freighter.
<[COMC_Ironside]> ::watches Wraith 4, trying to decide whether or not it's
a good thing they're getting dragged along for the ride::
<[MJSL_Wayne-W4]> ::grabs his console:: Ryosei, hang on the Vlad is taking
us for a ride ::taps on the terminal reengaging the engines::
<[Ryosei-W4]> ah.. is not so good....
<[L2SL_Prescot-W1]> ::flies off after the two ships caught in the tractor
beams:: ok mental note ppl... we DONT try to tractor off Wraith 4...

Meanwhile, back on Coro, Marcy tries to be funny. ;-)
<FCCO_LoraKor> ::frowns and stands:: Lieutenant Marcy, is what I think is
 happening, happening?
<LJtc_Marcy> Depends on what you think is happening sir
