 Notes from the Captain:

Once again, I will let Coro's sim, and Coro's year speak for itself. :)
After all, what could I possibly add that hasn't already been said? Due
to the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the next Coronado sim will be
7 January 2002. Enjoy your two weeks off, and to everyone aboard U.S.S.
Coronado, your families, and friends a happy and bright holiday season!!
:) Get good stuff, give good stuff, but mostly, enjoy the company of
your RL family and friends for a bit. ;) I'll see all of you next year.

One short note: I was pleased and proud to create a new recognition just
for Coronado simmers... specifically, those Coronado simmers that are not
just simmers, but have proven themselves part of the Coro family. :) For
all of these simmers, there is the Order of the Defenders of Coronado.
The Coro sim has been running for 4.5 years now, and of all the simmers
that have participated during that time, I selected 24 who have been the
longest-serving simmers... simmers who created memorable characters...
simmers who are not just nicknames on IRC but part of the Coro tradition.
You can read about them at:

 http://www.jestertrek.com/coro2400/bodies/depts/defenders.html

Remember, a very detailed map of the part of M64 Coro finds herself in is
 available for your review at:

 http://www.jestertrek.com/m64/

Coro's crew's current position is the Reor system, which you'll find in
Grid 004 next to the smaller of the two nebulae on the main map. Of
course, if you don't know where Reor is by now, you're probably not paying
any attention to the map... ;-) Coronado herself is under repair in the
Pitstop system in Grid 001, between Reor and Gateway.

Sim Title: "Roasting on an Open Fire"

 Teaser and Pre-Sim:
 -------------------
For the last 115 years, there has been a tradition on Reorsa, the planet
on which the crew of U.S.S. Churchill settled after becoming trapped in
the M64 galaxy. Every Reorsan year on the first day of winter, a gala
nighttime Party is held. The Party -- on Reorsa, noone has to ask you
which party you mean -- serves both a functional and a ceremonial purpose.
The functional purpose is to allow those who wish to to gather to remember
and commemorate the year just passed, and to prepare for the coming year.
The ceremonial function of the Party is to "renew the patrol." At the
height of each year's Party, Churchill leaves the Reor system at warp --
creating a warp flash visible on the surface -- to begin the search of the
M64 galaxy anew for a way home.

 During the Sim:
 ---------------
Coro's crew prepared to attend this year's Party. The Party is normally
held on the hillside overlooking Churchill Downs northwest of the city,
the same hillside Coro herself once landed on. This year, tents and
pavillions -- many donated by the Camelynians who are noted for using them
in their own ceremonies -- dominated the hillside. Twinkling lights
adorned the tents, a central fire was prepared, and a number of small gas
lamps provided illumination. Mountains of food was available, gallons of
drink, and literally thousands of Churchill Downs' and Fisher's Landing's
populations were in attendance, both Churchill descendants and braids.

Above the Party, the threat of snow abated and the stars shone down... in
particular six much brighter than the others and unmoving: starships in
orbit. In the midst of thousands of others doing the same, the Coro
family sought each other out to reminisce on 2401 and to just be together.
Some of the senior officers gathered in large groups, others sought out
just one other to spend the first night of Reorsa's winter with. The
Captain contented himself with mug after mug of Guinness, and feeling
mellow, chatted with Commander Daren, Colonel Ironside, Alados, and
others. The XO proposed a well-received toast to the Coronado crew. The
other members of the crew joined this group or that, teasing and joking,
or spending time alone together. In short, for the first time nearly
since our arrival in M64, Coro's crew got an opportunity to relax.

Or at least, some of them did. The Captain and the newly promoted Lt.
Colonel Wayne were sent a message via PADD delivered by Coro's new Reorsan
liaison officer, Lt. (JG) Caring-Thoughts. The PADD informed the two men
that U.S.S. Vanguard, far to the east in Boratis space, may have uncovered
evidence that another Starfleet vessel, U.S.S. Anderson, may be in M64.
Wayne was asked to gather his Wraith squadron, the Raptors, link up with
U.S.S. Resolute, and begin a search for this starship. Anderson is a
modern Eclipse class starship similar to our own task group's U.S.S.
Stirling, and so far as we knew, was still in the Milky Way. A few of the
crew speculated that Anderson might have found a way to look for us, and
those who knew of his mission wissed Lt. Colonel Wayne luck.

The time soon came to "renew the Patrol," as the Reorsans put it. Reorsan
President Darine n'Chamba, along with Admirals Theron and Aldur, Duke
Henry Gaveston-Tudor, the Taeren Jia Ron Drull, and a new figure gathered
on a podium near the fire. n'Chamba gave a few short welcoming remarks,
then introduced the unknown figure as Iktakto... of the Apori. Iktakto,
clearly somewhat overcome by emotion, also gave a few short remarks,
mostly clearly pleased to be invited and implying very strongly that the
Apori regard the Pfhor Hegemony not only as an enemy, but a "perversion
of the One"... whatever that means. Interestingly, Jia Ron Drull seemed
to be acting as Iktakto's interpreter, relaying the Apori's thoughts to
the crowd. Soon after, the Patrol began anew as the six bright stars
overhead flared, the starships they represented jumping to warp. Happily,
all six of the major allies involved in fighting the Pfhor were
represented: Starfleet, the Starfleet Marine Corps, the Camelynians, Taer,
Reorsa's own U.S.S. Churchill, and our new allies, the Apori.

Following the ceremony, Coronado's officers continued to relax and enjoy
each other's company until they headed home one by one, no doubt hoping
that Coro would soon be renewing her own Patrol.

 U.S.S. Coronado Complement Changes:
Lieutenant (JG) Caring-Thoughts, joining as a Systems Specialist.

 Promotions:
Jack C. Farley, from Lieutenant to Lt. Commander
Last promotion date: 02-Apr-01, 34 sims
CCC has been quietly, but effectively putting together a very
impressive simming career on Coro! He has proven to be both
extremely reliable and an able and creative role-player. Despite
being an "assistant," his character is a critical part of the
engineering team and an asset to Coro. Keep up the good work!

Zunite Oswald, from Lt. Commander to Commander
Last promotion date: 02-Apr-01, 27 sims
::grins:: I make it a point to promote Sonya to Commander every
two years or so, whether she deserves it or not. ;) Very much
kidding! Sonya is one of the founding members of the Coronado
sim and Zunite Oswald has grown steadily and believably since
the character was introduced on the Coro sim in 1999. Thank you
for all your great simming over the years, Sonya!

Thomas Wayne, from Major to Lt. Colonel
Last promotion date: 26-Mar-01, 32 sims
And to think, he started by observing a few sims. ;) From that
humble beginning, Masters has gone from infrequent observer to
an important part of our Coronado family. Thomas Wayne is now a
key member of Coro's Marines, and is of course quite active in
UCIP as a group. Congratulations, Masters!

 Academy Completions:
None (Get out there and take a class!)

Exchange of the Week: The whole sim! Everybody had a good bit! But...
Anybody wanna decide who won THIS exchange? ;-)
<Tebrun> ::leans near Ironside:: As I recall, we ended up staring at the
stars last year at this time too, Colonel.
<Tebrun> Been a busy year for our kids. ::glances over at Ironside,
 smirking::
<Jeremy_Ironside> ::nods, the ghost of a smile creeping back as he
continues drinking:: They've held up rather well.
 <Jeremy_Ironside> ::pauses:: ....mom.
<Tebrun> ::exhales while swallowing, chokes, and starts to cough::
<Tebrun> ::has himself a small but righteous coughing fit, then gives
 Ironside a dirty look::  *Mom?*
<Jeremy_Ironside> ::grins and stares out over the pavillion without
 looking at the sputtering Captain::
<Jeremy_Ironside> ::turns his head liesurely over at the Captain, straight
 faced, eyebrow raised:: I'm sorry?
<Tebrun> ::turns away:: Hmph. Mom. Great. Not this life, Colonel. Not
 hardly.
<Jeremy_Ironside> Well I'm most certainly not the mom... ::grins again and
pops a pretzel into his mouth::
<Tebrun> ::glances back, grinning slyly:: Yes, well. Maybe next life.
 ::dramatic pause::  If you're lucky.
 <Jeremy_Ironside> ::his turn to sputter::
<Jeremy_Ironside> ::clears his throat and repositions himself:: Touche.
