Notes from the Captain:

I'm typing this from 41,000 feet (12,500 meters for you Canadians) where
my plane has ascended to get over a ridge of turbulence currently sitting
over North America. And sitting here in a seat slightly too small for the
human behind, trying to type on a laptop keyboard that is too close to me
to type comfortably while listening to music being nearly drowned out by
the constant rumble-roar of jet exhaust, I'm trying to remember why I
agreed to this New York thing. Oh well. ;)

At least I can still sim from there. And a very nice sim it was, folks!
Nice work all around with at least four major plots in the air, despite
the fact we had a few slackers that left early. Obviously, I gave SOME
people too long of a break between sims and they went and got all soft on
us. ;) The break's over, though. Next week, you get a different sort of
action sim: a character-oriented action sim. We'll see how it works...

2002 should be interesting in regards to breaks -- we might not have any.
Every major holiday I can find in both the U.S. and Canada in 2002 falls
far from a Monday. ::cackles:: First 52-sim year in Coro history!

Coro's crew's current position is the Reor system, which you'll find in
Grid 004 next to the smaller of the two nebulae on the main map. Of
course, if you don't know where Reor is by now, you're probably not paying
any attention to the map... ;-) Coronado herself is under repair in the
Pitstop system in Grid 001, between Reor and Gateway.

Sim Title: "Survived the Trial", Part 1

Teaser and Pre-Sim:
-------------------
Minefields have been established around the home Reorsan systems, as well
as allied systems, resulting in a respite from Pfhor attacks for the time
being. There are still Hunters and Hounds on the surface of Reorsa,
but the planet's militia have become proficient in defending against their
ambushes and attacks. Possibly most important of all, in the false matter
torpedo currently under development, the Starfleet ships might soon have a
weapon that will make them a credible threat to Pfhor destroyers...

During the Sim:
---------------
With the Reorsan militia's performance improving, much of Coro's crew have
been released from formal training duties as our Marines help bring more
and more units on-line. In addition, our ship is getting closer and
closer to being ready for launch herself, and as a result, Commander
Oswald has already headed for Pitstop to oversee the frigate's final work
and fitting out. Commander Tlaloco sought out the Captain and asked to
put together a team to join her, and the Captain granted him permission.
Lora Kor also gave Tlaloco with a new set of transporter specs provided
by the Apori and asked the Commander to see to it that several
transporters were modified to these specifications. Tlaloco acknowledged
this order, then moved quickly to gather his team and get them into space.

Once away, Tlaloco ran the mission very much in keeping with his
personality. His cautious nature dictated that the first thing he develop
with his new "crew" would be a series of emergency protocols, evasives,
and drills. His garralous nature meant that as he did this, he developed
an extremely informal workng relationship with them...

Meanwhile, the Captain sought out Commander Drexler, then Commander
Savant, and briefed the two of them on a significant modification that the
Captain would like made to the base false matter torpedo design. Fearful
that an explosive torpedo, even one that has drilled into a target, won't
do enough damage to the massive Pfhor ships, the Captain speculated that
the explosive package could be removed from the torpedo and replaced with
additional matter and energy stores for the false matter replicator.
Once the false matter torpedo has drilled into its target, instead of
exploding, it would generate several very long, very thin "wires" of
false matter... which would slice up the target from the inside. Lora
Kor, having come to this possibility somewhat speculatively, wanted to
ask the two officers if they thought the idea feasible.

Both Drexler and Savant thought the idea had merit, so the Captain ordered
the two of them to work together to test the theory and confirm the
details. Since the Captain's redesigned torpedo is even larger than
Drexler's prototype false matter torpedo (which was itself larger than a
standard torpedo), a new torpedo casing will have to be designed. New
starship launchers, tubes, and magazines will be needed as well. Drexler
indicated that he would see to this. The Captain then asked to speak to
Savant alone. Having earlier asked the Tactical Officer's opinion of
Savant's mental state, Lora Kor had enough information to combine with
his own observations to be extremely worried about Savant's behavior. The
two spent some time arguing about Savant's self-flagellation. Lora Kor
attempted to make Savant realize that such mistakes are part of living,
but the Commander would not be so easily placated.

Finally, as all of this was going on, Colonel Ironside and Lt. Colonel
Wayne directed a defense of northern Churchill Downs against what appeared
to be an attack of several hundred Hounds. The Hounds, working without
Hunter support, attempted to burrow into the city's key areas from
underneath. However, the Marines were prepared for this, and through
innovative tactics, were able to repulse the attack, killing a large
number of the attacking Hounds. Churchill Down was saved further
destrction, and the Hunter/Hound force on Reorsa continues to shrink.
