Notes from the Captain:
Well, nobody threw fruit or eggs, except at the horrid pun in this
episode's title, so I'm forced to conclude that Fraser did a good job
writing it. ;-) Well done, Fraser, and thank you! You'll be interested
to learn that virtually everything we learn about the Pfhor/Accursed is
information that has been provided by Fraser (from basic source material
that will be revealed next year sometime) and we'll of course be running
into our Pfhor friends again.
This week, Alffred aka 1st Lieutenant Eric Moore, let us all know that
he'd be leaving us. :-/ This is very much the end of an era for Coro;
Alffred has been part of the crew since joining Coro 2375 as Trent
Anderson, a junior engineer, back in April 1999. Jarod Bentall, Coro
2400's first Chief Engineer, was born in June 1999, and when our original
XO had to step down, Alffred moved up to XO until November of that year.
At that time, I was forced to take an extended LOA that lasted for five
months, and Alffred ran the sim for all of that time, becoming the only
other person to CO Coronado in her four plus year history. Alffred
graciously stepped back to XO on my return, and did a fine job there. He
also introduced an interesting adversary to the Coro mythos: Captain
Jonathan Swift (who we'll be seeing again ;-) ). Captain Jarod Bentall
was of course tragically killed in the successful capture of Sienov
Temarr. Alffred has played 1st Lieutenant Moore since that time.
Hopefully, this makes it clear that Alffred's departure leaves a hole on
Coro that will not easily be filled. I hope all of you will join me in
thanking him for all his good simming over the years, and in hoping that
he'll come back to us someday. Thank you, Alffred, and good luck with
whatever you decide to do in the future!

Coro's current position is the H042 (Omsi) system, which you'll find in
Grid 003 (immediately to the left of Reor, in the upper left corner of
the large map on the front page). Vladivostok is leaving system G052
in Grid 014, immediately to the "north". Note that the descriptions for
both are the ones prior to the respective ship's arrivals. What's
available on the map is what we knew about the systems before we
visited them...
Sim Title: "Two Plus Two Equals", Part 3
Coronado continued to support the landing of the Marine fire team, medical
team, and engineering team to the surface of the Kioth mining colony in
the G044 system. The team next beamed into a storage room that had been
barricaded against attack. The barricaded room was full of Kioth miners,
who were unarmed. One of them seemed to fear that "the conquerors" might
return to find the away team there more than he feared another attack,
and he begged the away team to escape before "the conquerors" could
return. The away team elected not to leave until they could beam the
Kioth survivors of the attack back to Coronado with them. This idea was
complicated by the fact that moments later, the conquerors did return to
G044... in an Accursed vessel of the type that destroyed Reorsan starship
Dauntless. Coro evaded its initial attack and moved to put the bulk of
the planet between herself and the massive Accursed vessel.
Meanwhile, the team on Tarndare had learned that the Accursed's name for
themselves is apparently the Pfhor when a Pfhor warship (also of the type
that destroyed Dauntless) moved to dock at the mining station. Colonel
Ironside contacted the Taer and asked for a change of disguise for the
team to a non-biped form, centaurs in this case. Newly disguised, the
team's primary mission then became trying to gather what final information
they could about the Pfhor and get off the station safely. A group of
five of what were apparently Pfhor -- bird-like bipeds with rubbery skin
dressed in some kind of armor -- along with one of the metallic cylinder
creatures that we encountered on patrol 2/7 boarded the station. They
almost immediately set to apparently negotiating with station personnel,
ignoring anyone else. Commander Oswald managed to download part of an
encrypted file back to Vladivostok, but apparently drew attention to
herself in the process. The metal cylinder moved in to investigate her.
Vladivostok had troubles of her own: the Dorja, revealed to be some kind
of pirate ship, threatened to denounce Vladivostok as a pirate ship
herself unless Colonel Ironside would trade the warp 8 technology the
Starfleet freighter had and the pirate ship apparently wanted. Meanwhile,
Commander Tlaloco managed to slip through the crowd close enough to one of
the five Pfhor to slice off a tiny cell sample. Fortunately for him, the
Pfhor in question didn't notice... and Tlaloco later learned it was
probably because he sliced off a bit of its armor, not its flesh. With
the danger on the station apparent, the Tarndare team moved quickly to get
back to Vladivostok. Everyone was eventually beamed back to the ship
except Oswald, who was pinned by the metal cylinder, who was joined by a
Pfhor warrior. While Oswald stalled as best she could, Drexler finally
got a lock on her and beamed her back. Vladivostok left Tarndare,
calling Dorja's bluff. The pirate ship moved in to attack the Starfleet
freighter, but Vladivostok's superior speed allowed her to escape.
In G044, Coronado managed to slip in close enough to the planet to beam
the away team and their refugees back to the frigate, taking damage from
Accursed strike craft as she did so. Fortunately, the bulk of the planet
shielded Coro from the Accursed warship. However, when Coro moved out of
the planet's shadow to leave the system, the warship fired an incredibly
powerful beam of plasma energy that just missed the frigate. That was
enough for the Captain, who ordered an emergency slipstream jump away from
G044. Coronado got away with only minor damage while those aboard the
frigate tried to assist the Kioth refugees.
