The next six weeks passed in a haze.

Coronado arrived at the Pitstop to find that a line had formed for repairs.
In front of the frigate was the experimental cruiser U.S.S. Vanguard, newly
arrived from the Milky Way. Fortunately, damage to Vanguard was relatively
light and repairs were being completed as Coro arrived. This gave the crew
time to catch up on the news from the Milky Way, the end of the war, in
particular. While many breathed a sigh of relief for their families, many
more grumbled about Starfleet's effective surrender and wondered if the task
group's presence in the final weeks of the fighting would have made any
difference.

A few, like Commander John Zort on Resolute, thought of their families
living under Klingon or Romulan occupation forces, probably living as
slaves, and tried to find an outlet for their rage.

Soon, Vanguard left for Reorsa, and it was Coro's turn to hang next to the
still badly-damaged U.S.S. Odyssey in Pearl. Fleet Captain Tebrun Lora Kor
spent a couple of days looking over at the Sovereign class ship, her saucer
stripped almost to the skeletal framework and watching as two Atlas class
tugs almost literally took Coronado apart. It took them only ten hours to
detach all eight of Coro's hull modules and park them just outside the
frame. Module two, the Intelligence Support module, was the most badly
damaged and was connected to Pearl power, both to facilitate faster repairs
and to provide power for Savant, whose life was tied to the module. Another
twenty hours sufficed to remove Coronado's two warp nacelles -- part of the
refit work would involve finally reinforcing the frigate's nacelle struts.

The feeling of being watched that much of the crew was having passed, and in
particular, Colonel Ironside and Major Wayne's physical conditions slowly
returned to normal. Though both officers thought about what had happened
off and on and came up with their own theories, none of Coro's medical staff
could explain what had occurred.

Once Coro's saucer modules and nacelles were detached, the heavy labor moved
inside the frigate and there was much less to see. Coro's crew were given
liberty one and all, and in large groups and small, scattered to the four
winds, many going to the Reor or Meyer systems, or heading for the nearby
Crystal Palace to relax. For his part, Tebrun said "so long for now" to the
bulk of his crew and caught a packet to Reorsa.

The next six weeks passed in a haze for the rest of Task Group 5.4 too, but
a busy one. The Accursed attacks stopped, and slowly, live returned to a
semblance of normality.

On Reorsa, the first squadron of "Block Three" Spectres arrived, courtesy of
the manufacturing lines on Camelynian Worldship Crystal Palace. Two weeks
later, crewed by braids, the new squadron was christened RTF-01, the
"Swordsmen," and took its place on the Reorsan patrol lines. Nearby, in the
cavernous Vehicle Assembly Building in Fisher's Landing, the framework of an
Intrepid class starship slowly took shape as enormous spars were
gamma-welded together to create the ship's skeleton. In orbit, a twin MRF
to Pearl, to be named Onyx, slowly took shape as well near Reorsa's
Homeworld Starbase.

On the Meyer colonies in the Regency system, in another Vehicle Assembly
Building that was a twin to the one in Fisher's Landing, three ships began
to take shape: a Defiant II destroyer escort and two of four Wraith class
corvettes. Meanwhile, two Camelynian starships settled into Meyer III
orbit, openly talking about establishing a Camelynian colony on the surface
of the class M moon. The thousand or so people living on Meyer III
approved, and Camelynians arrived in good-natured swarms to start
construction.

In the Gateway system, Subspace Relay 02 was brought fully on-line and
additional ships arrived to guard the hypergate against either a possible
Romulan incursion launched from the Milky Way or arriving Traxati
weapon-probes. Ten days after her arrival, someone aboard U.S.S. Gryphon
got the idea to begin laying graviton shell and self-replicating mines
across the hypergate entrance, and Spectres from Gryphon carried this
mission out over much of late September and early October 2401.

U.S.S. Swiftsure completed her diplomatic mission in the Boratis system, and
headed for the Z'hora system to negotiate with that planet's inhabitants.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Aldur and U.S.S. Stirling moved to Boratis space to
complete the negotiations and hammer out a mutual defense and information-
sharing treaty with that lifeform. Science teams from U.S.S. Odyssey
completed their exploration mission in the Taer system before moving on to
Enigma to converse with the Traxati worldlife there.

U.S.S. Athena and U.S.S. Thonus arrived in the Artemis system and began
evaluating the white subgiant star and its planets as a possible resource
collection point and alternative to the resource-rich Pitstop system. While
they were there, they placed Subspace Relay 03 into orbit of the star and
laid a variety of probes in orbit of the various planets.

In the Taer system, medical and science personnel from U.S.S. Schweitzer
fanned out across the planet and made several suggestions to the Taer
natives on how to better protect their somewhat fragile physical bodies from
the elements. The Taer, ever amused at the suggestions and inventiveness of
their visitors, indulged them. The Taer moon continued in its rapid 11 day
orbit, the Taer's mindlife growing stronger and weaker with the waxing and
waning of its light and radiation striking the surface. While the
Schweitzer and Odyssey personnel were there, they got an extensive
demonstration of the Taer "starships" -- actually illusions through which
the Taer could see and repel attacks, but not much else -- and nicknamed
them "Kami-class vessels," after the Japanese word for a helpful spirit.
They also placed another Subspace Relay, 04, into orbit of the star again to
the amused delight of the Taeren who watched the process.

And in the Pitstop system, work on Coronado and Odyssey continued, while a
newly-arrived Camelynian team settled in around U.S.S. Vladivostok and began
making extensive modifications to the one Starfleet freighter in the
group...

And on these and other planets to which Task Group 5.4 and their allies laid
claim, humans and Vulcans and Trill and Rigellians and Bolians and three
dozen other species lived their lives, loved their families and children,
and led -- as much as possible -- happy and productive lives... slightly
paranoid productive lives, perhaps, but life did go on despite the threat of
another series of Accursed attacks.

The six weeks passed quickly, and Coro's crew gathered in the Pitstop
system, and sooner than could be believed, it was time for their next
mission.
